(iii) Risk Committee:<br />

<strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> (<strong>India</strong>) Limited<br />

The Managing Director chairs <strong>the</strong> meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Risk Committee and <strong>the</strong> person in charge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Business Process Improvement &<br />

Audit function acts as Rapporteur for this Committee. The Group Leadership Team members are <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Committee.<br />

It meets quarterly to address <strong>the</strong> risk issues relating to various business and support areas and monitor <strong>the</strong> critical factors in order to<br />

effectively address <strong>the</strong>m. Areas covered by this Committee are Control Policies, Business Continuity Plans, Foreign exchange coverage<br />

operations, Debtors control, Advances control, Blank Travellers’ Cheques stocks exposure, Compliance Audit (FEMA & O<strong>the</strong>rs),<br />

Information Systems Security, Physical Security, Remittance operations etc. It reports into <strong>the</strong> Audit Committee <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Company.<br />

5. O<strong>the</strong>r Qualitative Information:<br />

(i) Contribution to Society:<br />

The Company has set up a foundation – “<strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Cares ….” – which will focus on activities related to women empowerment,<br />

education, health, environment and wildlife, arts and crafts etc. This foundation is pending registration with <strong>the</strong> Charity Commissioner’s<br />

Office.<br />

The Company will set aside ` 10 lakhs every year for social activities to be undertaken by this foundation. Five employees <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Company have been nominated as Trustees for this foundation.<br />

During <strong>the</strong> year, <strong>the</strong> Company has undertaken <strong>the</strong> following activities:<br />

1. “Jeevan Jyot Centre” has been established in collaboration with Nirmala Niketan College <strong>of</strong> Social Work at Mumbai. This centre<br />

will be a strategic support centre for people infected and affected by sexually transmitted diseases, chiefly AIDS. <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong><br />

Cares will support this cause by initially setting up <strong>the</strong> centre in a busy locality. <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Cares organized a programme for<br />

distributing umbrellas and books to <strong>the</strong> infected and affected student population. More than 200 students benefited from <strong>the</strong><br />

generosity <strong>of</strong> a private donor. <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Cares sponsored <strong>the</strong> eats during <strong>the</strong> distribution programme for students and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

parents. At <strong>the</strong> same event, <strong>the</strong> infected and affected adults were apprised <strong>of</strong> various Government schemes <strong>the</strong>y could enroll<br />

for financial and rehabilitative support. <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Cares has commenced “Vocational & Career Guidance” counseling for <strong>the</strong><br />

youth affected / infected by HIV. The Legal Aid cell is now functional - free services provided three days a week. “Alternative<br />

Medicine / Therapy” is now being provided at <strong>the</strong> Centre (Homeopathic medicine).<br />

2. On World No Tobacco Day (May 31), three cancer detection camps were sponsored - one for <strong>the</strong> Mumbai Police and o<strong>the</strong>r two<br />

for <strong>the</strong> lower level strata <strong>of</strong> society. More than a 1000 people attended <strong>the</strong>se camps in Mumbai where <strong>the</strong> Cancer Patients Aid<br />

Association (CPAA) provided technical support.<br />

3. On World Environment Day (June 8), <strong>the</strong> Company sponsored planting <strong>of</strong> 200+ saplings across cities in <strong>India</strong> where it has<br />

branches.<br />

4. A group <strong>of</strong> employees from our branch in Agra collaborated with <strong>the</strong> Taj Group <strong>of</strong> Hotels to clean up <strong>the</strong> banks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Yamuna,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> river per se, on which <strong>the</strong> world famous Taj Mahal monument is located.<br />

5. A cancer detection camp was organized for police personnel associated with <strong>the</strong> Dharavi Police Station – a police station in Asia’s<br />

largest slum.<br />

6. A physically challenged person has been provided with a specially fitted motorbike to enable him earn a livelihood selling<br />

domestic goods on a door to door basis.<br />

7. <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Cares will be vigorously supporting a residential school for 50 mentally challenged children <strong>of</strong> extremely poor<br />

farmers from around 300 villages near <strong>the</strong> city <strong>of</strong> Kolhapur. Substantial funds have been provided for basic amenities, teacher’s<br />

training and food for <strong>the</strong> inmates. Efforts are on to garner state support and support from various private trusts to develop <strong>the</strong><br />

site and for providing day to day financial support.<br />

8. The Company <strong>part</strong>icipated in a drive to raise funds for <strong>the</strong> Cancer Patients Aid Association.<br />

9. The foundation sponsored <strong>the</strong> air passage to South Korea <strong>of</strong> a deaf artist from <strong>India</strong> – so he could showcase his works at <strong>the</strong><br />

World Deaf Artist Exchange Art exhibition.<br />

10. The foundation organised a fun filled city tour <strong>of</strong> Mumbai for more than 25 mentally and physically challenged children <strong>of</strong> an<br />

institution in Mumbai, on <strong>the</strong> occasion <strong>of</strong> “Children’s Day” (14th November).<br />

11. The Company has sponsored administrative arrangements, lunch, transport etc <strong>of</strong> over 1000 students <strong>of</strong> schools meant for<br />

children <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> poor strata <strong>of</strong> society. Over a 2 month period <strong>the</strong>se children will be exposed to music, art, dance, sports and<br />

various cultural activities. At a gala evening in mid December, <strong>the</strong>se children have showcased <strong>the</strong>ir talents. 100 most talented<br />

children will be awarded a scholarship to pursue a vocational course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir choice.<br />

12. The Company continues to promote Travel and Tourism related education by providing ‘Vocational / On <strong>the</strong> Job’ Training to<br />

students <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> degree courses <strong>of</strong>fered by various Universities.<br />

13. The Company continues to be an active core committee member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Heritage Mile Association, which seeks to conserve and<br />

enhance <strong>the</strong> architectural beauty <strong>of</strong> structures in <strong>the</strong> Hutatma Chowk to C.S.T. area in Mumbai.<br />

14. Give <strong>India</strong>, an NGO mobilizes funds from Corporates for various o<strong>the</strong>r NGOs in many ways. One such initiative is inviting<br />

<strong>part</strong>icipation from Corporates in <strong>the</strong> “Joy <strong>of</strong> Giving Week” in December. Corporates choose an NGO and raise funds for it through<br />
