The Human Resources De<strong>part</strong>ment has rolled out various training<br />

initiatives in its quest that each member <strong>of</strong> <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> <strong>India</strong> will<br />

be a torch bearer for <strong>the</strong> Vision and Values <strong>of</strong> our organisation and<br />

uphold <strong>the</strong>m with pride…. ‘PRIDE’ in <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong>.<br />

To drive <strong>the</strong> future business growth TCIL has embarked upon a Key<br />

Talent Plan through which employees are identified as Key Talent<br />

based on performance, potential and criticality. Various interventions<br />

are planned for nurturing those identified and enable <strong>the</strong>m scale up<br />

for higher responsibilities.<br />

The organization continues to focus on Training & Development<br />

initiatives at all <strong>the</strong> levels – The Managerial and Leadership<br />

Effectiveness (MILE) programs launched in collaboration with two<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most prestigious management institutes in <strong>India</strong> – <strong>the</strong> <strong>India</strong>n<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> Management, Ahmedabad and <strong>the</strong> <strong>India</strong>n Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Management, Indore. We run <strong>the</strong> program at three levels for Senior,<br />

Middle and Entry level Managerial staff, viz. MILE I, MILE II and MILE<br />

III. We have initiated a structured induction program at <strong>the</strong> entry level<br />

‘SPARK’ which ensures that all staff are suitably trained and equipped<br />

for <strong>the</strong>ir job.<br />

The Company continues to nurture talent through TCMLP (<strong>Thomas</strong><br />

<strong>Cook</strong> Middle Leadership Program), TCMTP (<strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Management<br />

Trainee Program) and TCETP (<strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Executive Trainee Program)<br />

so as to create talent pipeline at various levels in junior and middle<br />

management.<br />

To provide an energetic work environment, this year we launched <strong>the</strong><br />

PRIDE Club – through which non work opportunities related to fun<br />

and learning are provided – this included having <strong>the</strong> PRIDE cricket<br />

tournament in various cities, celebrating various festivals in <strong>of</strong>fice as<br />

also having evening sessions on matters <strong>of</strong> interest.<br />

We realize that <strong>the</strong> only sustainable competitive advantage in<br />

today’s dynamic, challenging and rapidly changing context is human<br />

resources. Towards that, we are in <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> constantly energizing<br />

and revitalizing our people by equipping <strong>the</strong>m with cutting edge<br />

skills, developing a holistic perspective and im<strong>part</strong>ing in <strong>the</strong>m, a drive<br />

for excellence, so as to enable <strong>the</strong>m to be <strong>the</strong> best in class by creating<br />

an organization <strong>of</strong> our dreams.<br />

The financial year end employee strength was 2728 including those<br />

employed at Sri Lanka and <strong>the</strong> Company’s subsidiaries in <strong>India</strong> and<br />

Mauritius.<br />

Management wishes to place on record its acknowledgement and<br />

CENTRE OF LEARNING<br />

<strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> (<strong>India</strong>) Limited<br />

In <strong>the</strong> context <strong>of</strong> high growth, increasing customer expectations and<br />

a highly competitive environment, talent management has become<br />

a critical challenge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tourism & Travel Industry. Our foray into<br />

Tourism Education with “Centre <strong>of</strong> Learning”- is hence ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />

innovative and key initiative from <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> <strong>India</strong> to develop<br />

talent for not merely <strong>the</strong> organisation, but ra<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Industry as<br />

a whole. Hence, <strong>the</strong> primary objective <strong>of</strong> Centre <strong>of</strong> Learning is to<br />

proactively facilitate talent management and to grow, harness and<br />

nurture <strong>the</strong> skill sets in <strong>the</strong> Tourism & Travel Industry. It is run by<br />

a group <strong>of</strong> dedicated, knowledgeable people headed by <strong>the</strong> Vice<br />

President and Head – Centre <strong>of</strong> Learning.<br />

Centre <strong>of</strong> Learning serves as a guide and mentor to <strong>the</strong> travel industry<br />

via several forums, industry meets and associated education programs<br />

like: Certificate Course in World Tour Management, Domestic Certificate<br />

course in ‘My <strong>India</strong> My Way, IATA/ UFTAA – Foundation/ Consultant<br />

Course, Travel Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Program, PGDM in international business.<br />

With <strong>the</strong> increased interest and demand for <strong>the</strong> courses <strong>of</strong>fered, Centre<br />

<strong>of</strong> Learning has finally come into its own and has its own premises<br />

now in Hitkari House on Shahid Bhagat Singh Road, Mumbai. The<br />

centre has a well equipped 15 seater Computer Lab and 2 classrooms<br />

<strong>of</strong> 30 student capacity with all <strong>the</strong> latest multimedia facilities.<br />

In an endeavour to promote quality research in <strong>the</strong> travel and tourism<br />

sector, <strong>Thomas</strong> <strong>Cook</strong> Centre <strong>of</strong> Learning launched Disha, a platform<br />

which invited research papers in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> tourism from faculties <strong>of</strong><br />

educational institutions across <strong>India</strong>. After receiving an overwhelming<br />

response, <strong>the</strong> initiative was concluded in a felicitation ceremony on<br />

30th September, 2011 where, Honourable Union Minister <strong>of</strong> Tourism,<br />

Shri Subodh Kant Sahai along with Honourable State Minister <strong>of</strong><br />

Tourism, Shri Chhagan Bhujbal felicitated <strong>the</strong> winning research<br />

entries and released a published book “Disha 2011” with compilation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> top research papers.<br />

COL has been awarded destination trainings to travel agents pan <strong>India</strong><br />

by Fiji, Swiss, Canada and Czech Tourism Boards.<br />
