admission, entry procedures and bursaries…continuedBursariesOur Independent Schools Inspectorate Report 2012reported the spiritual, moral, social and cultural developmentof the pupils is excellent. We believe that our comprehensivebursary scheme not only provides the opportunity for manyof varied means to attend the school, but also enhances thesocial development of the whole school. Since the abolitionof the Assisted Places Scheme the school has workedtirelessly to enhance its own Bursary Fund which aims toprovide financial assistance to girls and boys who passthe entrance examination but whose parents are unableto afford the fees. Such bursaries are usually allocated toentrants at the age of 11 and for entry into the Sixth Form.Currently 15-20% of pupils benefit in some way from theschool’s own endowments, assistance given by formerpupils based in the US and the UK and local and nationalbusinesses, including HSBC, Eurodirect, N G Bailey, theOgden Trust and, most recently, Pace Microtechnology.Bursaries are awarded on a means-tested basis, each casebeing reviewed annually. The award depends on parentalcircumstances, the amount of capital available at the time ofthe examination and the academic ability of the candidate.Despite our significant success in raising funds for bursariesour resources are inevitably limited and there will becandidates who will be offered a place on the basis of theirexam performance but not awarded a bursary. If you wish to apply for financial assistance with schoolfees you should tick the box on the Entrance ExaminationApplication Form. You will be sent a form which should becompleted and returned before the date of the EntranceExamination. Details of the amount of any bursary awardare sent out with the offer of a place if applicable. As ageneral rule a bursary could be awarded to those familieswhose total income is up to £50,500 (earnings includesalaries, benefits, profits, investment income etc.). Eachfamily’s case is always considered individually. For those candidates who show exceptional musical abilitythe school is able to provide scholarship funding. Thiscovers the cost of music tuition and is available for pupilsfrom the age of 8 years. Music scholarships are separatefrom academic bursaries. Candidates in receipt of a bursaryfor academic studies will not necessarily receive a musicscholarship and vice versa. If you wish to be considered forfinancial assistance for music you should write in the firstinstance to the Director of Music.
