Because of the inherent technology of conventionalflexible PVC membranes, plasticizer loss is an inevitable event. In other words, themembranes in each of the four groups display some degree of plasticizer loss over timewith group A and group C results positioned between the relative stability of group Dand the least stable group B.Consider the following scenario: a building owner in the central U.S. is making aselection for a roof system and he decides upon a conventional PVC roof system. Fournew, white, flexible membranes are offered as options, each made by a differentsupplier. All four membranes carry the same warranty and sales literature for eachclaim to provide the same features. The price difference between the four is, on a scaleof the total roofing cost (membrane, insulation, fastenings, and labor), about 2-percent.If the criteria of selection is price, what price difference would be appropriate to offsetthe difference in impact performance between the four membranes?18
