Ramakrishna Murthy Free SSVT AuditoriumAnnual Thyagaraja Aradhana festivalThe 30 th Annual Thyagaraja festival was celebrated with music and dance organized at the temple, providing a great opportunity formusic and dance enthusiasts of the DC area. The festival was organized by the Music & Arts Council of SSVT. The 2-day event wascoordinated by Smt. Ramah Muralidharan.The first day’s events started off with unchavrithi and followed by puja for Lord.Rama and <strong>Sri</strong>.Thyagaraja. The rendition ofpancharathna krithis, coordinated by <strong>Sri</strong>. <strong>Sri</strong>nivas Bangarbale, was the highlight of the morning wherein a number of area singers,teachers, students, participated in a setting similar to the one in Thiruvaiyaru. A number of local violin and mrudangam artists paidhomage with their able accompaniment. Following this was a flute mini concert performed by Kum. Roshni Gorur and Chi. Nandan<strong>Sri</strong>nivasa. Prahlada Bakthi Vijayam was the theme for the brilliant presentation by <strong>Sri</strong>.Harish Neelakandan and <strong>Sri</strong>.GokulChandramouli.The main concert by <strong>Sri</strong>. B. Balasubramanyam was superb. It started with a varnam in Nayaki, followed by a spectacular Bagayanayyain Chandrajyoti and Endhuku Nirdhaya in Harikamboji. Next, <strong>Sri</strong>. Balu elaborated Anandabhairavi in the typical style of Smt.T.Brindaschool, singing the popular Dikshitar krithi Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam. He then sang the beautiful and relatively rare EndhukiTuchapalamu in Mandari. The main concert piece, Palinchu Kamakshi in Madyamavathi , was followed by a superb Ragam-Thanam-Pallavi in Sankarabharanam. The concluding piece was a unique ragamalika viruththam describing the navarasas in nine ragams. <strong>Sri</strong>.L.Ramakrishnan provided superior support on the violin and <strong>Sri</strong>. Jayanth Balasubramanian flawlessly accompanied on the mrudangam,The day ended with a grand feast annadhanam, a tradition that was started by <strong>Sri</strong>.Raju Soundararajan many years ago. This wascoordinated and prepared by area volunteers and served by youth.The second day’s program was marked by 2 mini concerts with a variety of popular pieces coming to life in front of the listeners by bothartists. It was heartening to see two young artists from our local area Chi.Ram Viswanathan, and Chi.Sidharth Kumar perform during theevent. Youth participation was a highlight of this years’ aradhana.. Scores of music students offered homage to the saint composerthroughout the day, concluding with a dance recital by artists from the area dance schools. This dance event was ably organized by Smt.Vani Ramesh. Introduction of dance this year received much applause from the dance rasikas who witnessed the dancers perform formany popular kirthis of <strong>Sri</strong>.Thyagaraja including the popular <strong>Sri</strong> Gana Pathinee.DirectionsFrom Baltimore / Washington D.C.
