We are awarethat ‘off the shelf’ flexible extractionarms are often misapplied. The HPDhas been designed to address thedeficiencies of conventional flexibleextraction arms, in line with currentHSE guidance, by enabling the correctdesign and positioning of LEV hoods. To this end, flextraction has invested inengineering expertise and computermodelling software and has gonethrough a stringent developmentprocess to bring the new HPD toindustry. The engineering withinthe HPD enables it to accommodatepurpose-designed hoods that canbe positioned as demanded by theprocess.11 Integrated hood damper allows greatercontrol of the airflow in an extraction system12 New 360° rotating swivel hood allows moreaccurate hood positioning13 ATEX compliant and Stainless Steelversions available optional14 Integral airflow indicatoravailable optionalAirflow IndicatorElectronic airflow indicating devices are available for all non ATEX HPDs.Airflow is detected by differential pressure and reflects a true movement of air. They are easily fitted to existing hoods or systems. The electronic airflowindicator not only visually shows the operator if the airflow is correct, but hasan additional audible alarm to warn the operator if there is a fall in the airvelocity.NB: Even when an airflow indicator reflects the required airflow, the capturehood will only work if correctly positioned by a trained operator.ARTICULATED HPDWITH TUBES5

To ensure fullcompliance, you should check against the full ATEX Directiveand The Dangerous Substances and Explosive AtmospheresRegulations 2002 (DSEAR).Hazardous area zones and equipment categoriesHazardous places are classified in terms of zones on thebasis of the frequency and duration of the occurrence of anexplosive atmosphere.Gases, vapours and mistsFor gases, vapours and mists the zone classifications are:Zone 1Zone 2Year of ManufactureSerial numberA place in which an explosive atmosphereconsisting of a mixture with air of dangeroussubstances in the form of gas, vapour or mist islikely to occur in normal operation occasionallyA place in which an explosive atmosphereconsisting of a mixture with air of dangeroussubstances in the form of gas, vapour or mist isnot likely to occur in normal operation but, if itdoes occur, will persist for a short period only.DustsFor dusts the zone classifications are:Equipment group II:Above ground applications(not mines)Equipment category 2:for zone 1 or 21, riskarea where an explosiveatmosphere is likely tooccur in normal operationType of atmosphereG = GasD = DustZone 21 A place in which an explosive atmosphere inthe form of a cloud of combustible dust in air islikely to occur in normal operation occasionally.Zone 22 A place in which an explosive atmosphere in theform of a cloud of combustible dust in air is notlikely to occur in normal operation but, if it doesoccur, will persist for a short period only.Notes1. Layers, deposits and heaps of combustible dust must be consideredas any other source which can form an explosive atmosphere.2. “Normal operation” means the situation when installations are usedwithin their design parameters.Equipment categories and zonesThe hazardous area zone classification and correspondingequipment categories are:Zone 1 or Zone 21 – Category 2 equipmentZone 2 or Zone 22 – Category 3 equipmentNotes1.
