150 DER FUEHRERof their death-cars, and didn't even forget the stones to weight down thevictims of their fight for freedom. The value of a man's life dwindled tonothing, after the value of his money had vanished. 'The creation of thefuture Germany — a Germany on a Germanic foundation' — had begun. But even if the unleashed hordes didn't know it, their leader did: therewas far more at stake than Germany. Again conviction was changed forconviction, again the whole world picture changed, again the aimschanged. No, the goal was not merely Germany. The goal was the unionof the Aryans and anti-Semites of all nations— the world domination, which Nietzsche divined, which Houston Chamberlain prophesied, andfor which the Wise Men of Zion indicated the means. The Demon, disguised as an unknown soldier from the Vienna lodging-house,speaks: 'Furthermore, this Germany must be the foundation of an Aryanworld order.'Anyone who has inwardly comprehended such a goal in all itsgreatness knows that it is attainable. Only unknown greatness terrifies.Little things decay, private life decays, the individual existence becomeshard and hopeless, man becomes impossible. But the mighty massarises, the mass means everything; infinite greatness becomes necessaryand therefore easy. The Demon, knowing no sentiments of happiness, peace, gaiety in his own life, and utterly cold to the life and happiness ofothers, speaks again: 'We must not ask if it is possible to attain this goal, but whether it is necessary. If it is impossible, we will try it anyway andbe destroyed. But if it is necessary and true, we must believe that it ispossible just the same. And we need this faith. A thousand years lookdown on us, the future demands sacrifices of us.'Hitler spoke these words on September 28, 1922. One month later, onOctober 27, 1922, Benito Mussolini in Italy established the first Fascistdictatorship in the world.
