BUSINESSStrengthening ties with NantongCB Choo, CEO of <strong>Keppel</strong> Corporation and Chairman of <strong>Keppel</strong> O&M, receiving the appointment plaque asthe advisor for SSTIP from Ding Dawei, <strong>May</strong>or of the Nantong Municipal Government on 10 <strong>June</strong> <strong>2010</strong>Reflecting the strong friendshipbetween <strong>Keppel</strong> and Nantong,CB Choo, CEO of <strong>Keppel</strong>Corporation and Chairman of<strong>Keppel</strong> O&M, was appointed as anadvisor for the Sutong Science &Technology Industrial Park (SSTIP)in Nantong, China, on 10 <strong>June</strong><strong>2010</strong>.The <strong>May</strong>or of Nantong MunicipalGovernment, Ding Dawei andhis delegation were in Singaporeto formally appoint the advisorsfor SSTIP at Ritz Carlton Hotel.Joining CB Choo were five otherrepresentatives from severalleading Singapore companies whohad agreed to serve on SSTIP’sadvisory panel.Formally launched in <strong>May</strong> 2009,the SSTIP is a collaboration projectbetween Nantong DevelopmentZone, the Suzhou Industrial Parkand China-Singapore SuzhouIndustrial Park Development Co.,Ltd. It is a new international hightechpark located to the northof Yangtze River, adjacent to theSuzhou-Nantong Bridge. SSTIP aimsto create a model for high-techand eco-friendly development, andwill become a new growth driverfor Nantong’s economy.<strong>Keppel</strong>’s links with Nantongstarted in 2005 when it acquiredand invested in an inactiveshipyard in Nantong, which hasbecome the present <strong>Keppel</strong>Nantong Shipyard. Investmentin the facility has augmented<strong>Keppel</strong>’s newbuilding capacity forspecialised vessels. This helpedto meet the increasing demandfor vessels from the growth inliquefied natural gas terminals andmaritime ports, as well as to servethe burgeoning offshore fielddevelopment market.The Nantong delegation alsocalled on Mr Mah Bow Tan,Singapore’s Minister for NationalDevelopment, to update him onthe latest developments in SSTIPand related activities taking placein Singapore.<strong>Offshore</strong><strong>Marine</strong> <strong>May</strong> – <strong>June</strong> <strong>2010</strong>27
