SPECIAL FEATURE<strong>Keppel</strong> Safety Training Centre opensGuided by experienced trainers, the new safety training facilities provides a conducive learningenvironment for the workforceDr Lee Boon Yangsafety aspects of<strong>Keppel</strong> O&M took another stridetowards a zero-incident workplacewith the opening of its newintegrated safety training facility,the <strong>Keppel</strong> Safety Training Centre.Located at <strong>Keppel</strong> Shipyard (Tuas),the Centre offers a complete rangeof safety training and certificationcourses in both trade-specific andbroad-based skills for its workforceacross all levels.The Centre is one of the keyelements of <strong>Keppel</strong> Shipyard’sSafety Excellence (SE) 2015 initiative,through which the companyseeks to foster a pervasive safetyculture and impart relevant safetycompetencies to its 14,000-strongmultinational workforce,including subcontractors.The Centre was declared open on10 <strong>June</strong> <strong>2010</strong> by Mr Hawazi Daipi,Senior Parliamentary Secretary forManpower & Health. He said, “I ampleased to be here to launch thisfirst-of-its-kind centre that is runby a company for its workforce.Centres like this will help to extendthis training to benefit even moreworkers.”Nelson Yeo, MD of <strong>Keppel</strong> O&M(<strong>Marine</strong>) and <strong>Keppel</strong> Shipyard,said, “The Centre draws on thecombined resources and expertiseof <strong>Keppel</strong> and our safety partnersto provide critical programmes andinfrastructure to raise the safetystandards of our workforce.“Training at the <strong>Keppel</strong> SafetyTraining Centre will be aprerequisite for all workers at<strong>Keppel</strong> Shipyard. We will sponsorall our direct and subcontractworkers for the same set ofcourses so as to imbibe in them acommon safety mindset and attaina uniform level of competenciesacross the board.
