CVH and PTE engine in-car repair procedures 2B•13its housing. If the seal housing is removedfrom the rear face of the engine, the seal canbe removed as described in paragraph 18. Asit is removed, note the direction of fitting, andtake care not to damage the seal housing asthe seal is extracted.14 Clean the seal housing, the crankshaftrear flange face, and the flywheel/driveplatemating surfaces.15 One of two possible methods may beused to insert the new oil seal, depending onthe tools available.16 If Ford special service tool No 21-095 isavailable, lubricate the seal lips of the seal andits running face on the crankshaft with cleanengine oil. Position the seal (correctlyorientated) into the special tool, then draw theseal into the housing using twoflywheel/driveplate securing bolts so that theseal is against the stop.17 If the correct Ford service tool is notavailable, it will be necessary to remove the oilseal carrier housing. To do this, first removethe sump as described in Section 13, thenunscrew the seal housing retaining bolts andremove the housing from the rear face of thecrankcase.18 Drive the old seal from the housing bycarefully tapping it from its aperture using asuitable punch as shown (see illustration). Asit is removed, note the direction of fitting, andtake care not to damage the seal housing asthe seal is extracted.19 New gaskets will be required for the sealhousing and sump during reassembly. Cleanthe mating faces of the seal housing, thecrankcase and sump. Insert the new sealsquarely into its housing. To avoid damagingthe seal or the housing, place a flat piece ofwood across the face of the seal, andcarefully tap or draw the seal into place. Donot allow the seal to tilt in the housing as it isbeing fitted.20 Lubricate the running surface on thecrankshaft and the oil seal lip with cleanengine oil. Locate a new gasket onto the rearface of the crankcase, and refit the oil sealhousing and seal. To avoid damaging the lipsof the seal as it is passed over the end of thecrankshaft, cut a thin sheet of plastic to suitand furl it round the rear flange of thecrankshaft so that it protrudes, and press theseal over it. With the seal in position, withdrawthe plastic protector. Centralise the seal on theshaft, check that the housing-to-sump flangefaces are flush to the sump face on the base ofthe crankcase, then insert and tighten thehousing retaining bolts to the specified torque.21 Refit the sump with reference to Section13.22 Refit the flywheel/driveplate as describedin Section 18.23 Refit the clutch as described in Chapter 6.24 Refit the engine or transmission, asapplicable.17 Engine/transmissionmountings - renewal21 The removal and refitting method for thetransmission bearer and mountings is asdescribed for HCS engines in Part A, Section15. On XR2i models, it will be necessaryto remove the front suspension crossmemberfirst (refer to Chapter 10).2 The engine right-hand mounting issignificantly different to that fitted to HCSengines, in that it is a two-piece bracket, andits removal and refitting procedure is detailedbelow.3 First of all support the engine/transmissionassembly as described in Part A, Section 15,then unscrew and remove the two nutssecuring the two halves of the mountingbracket assembly.4 Unscrew and remove the three boltssecuring the engine bracket section to thecylinder block (see illustration).5 Unscrew and remove the mountingretaining nut and washer from their locationnear the suspension strut.6 Unscrew and remove the mounting sidebolt from under the right-hand wheel arch.7 Refitting is a reversal of the removalprocedure. Make sure when refittingengine/transmission mountings, that anywashers and plates removed during thedismantling process are refitted in theiroriginal sequence. Do not fully tighten anymounting bolts until they are all located. Asthe mounting bolts and nuts are tightened, check that the mounting rubbers do not twist.2B16.18 Rear oil seal removal17.4 Exploded view of the right-hand engine mounting1595Ford Fiesta Remake
