Pull the speedometer cable throughinto the engine compartment, and remove itfrom the car.Refitting5 Refitting is the reversal of removal. Ensurethat the cable is routed as noted beforeremoval, secured with the relevant clips andcable-ties, and that the grommet is properlylocated in the bulkhead.12 Cigarette lighter -removal and refitting1Removal1 Disconnect the battery negative (earth) lead(refer to Chapter 5A, Section 1).2 Remove the cigarette lighter element(heated section).3 Carefully prise the element barrel out fromthe illuminated surround, disconnecting itsmulti-plug as it is withdrawn.4 Hinge the illuminated surround outcarefully, removing its bulb feed connector asit is withdrawn.Refitting5 Refitting is a reversal of the removalprocedure.13 Clock -removal and refitting1Removal1 Disconnect the battery negative (earth) lead(refer to Chapter 5A, Section 1).2 Using a thin flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully prise the clock out of the facia (seeillustration). Use a piece of card or similar toprevent damage to the facia. Withdraw theclock so that its multi-plug may bedisconnected, then remove it from the vehicle.Refitting3 Refitting is a reversal of removal. Reset theclock on completion.13.2 Carefully prise the clock out of thefacia14 Horn -removal and refitting1Removal1 The horn is mounted forward on the lefthandside of the engine compartment, nearthe battery.2 Disconnect the battery negative (earth) lead(refer to Chapter 5A, Section 1).3 Remove the wiring loom connection fromthe horn(s).4 Both single and dual horns are mounted toa bracket which is secured to the bodyworkby a single bolt. Remove the bolt andwithdraw the horn(s) and bracket from thevehicle. The horn(s) may be separated fromthe bracket, as required, by removing theretaining nut(s).Refitting5 Refitting is a reversal of removal.15 Wiper arms -removal and refitting1Removal1 With the wiper(s) “parked” (ie in the normalat-rest position), mark the positions of theblade(s) on the screen, using a wax crayon orstrips of masking tape.2 Lift up the plastic cap from the bottom ofthe wiper arm, and loosen the nut one or twoturns.3 Lift the wiper arm, and release it from thetaper on the spindle by moving it from side toside.4 Completely remove the nut and washer, then withdraw the wiper arm from thespindle.Refitting5 Refitting is a reversal of the removalprocedure. Make sure that the arm is fitted inthe previously-noted position.

The nut islocated behind the panel at the bonnet hingeend. Release the right-hand half of the paneland, having ensured that it is free to move, remove it (see illustrations).7 Unscrew the nut from the driving shaft, andpull the crank off the driving shaft taper (seeillustration).8 Undo the three wiper motor retaining bolts16.6b . . . then disengage the right-handhalf of the panel from under its singleretaining nut (left-hand shown)and withdraw the motor assembly (seeillustrations). Remove the motor cover, thendisconnect the multi-plug and remove themotor from the vehicle.Linkage9 Pull the rubber seal off the bulkhead panel.10 Bring the windscreen wiper linkage to anaccessible position, using the ignition switchas a means of stopping the wiper motorreturning to the parked position.11 Disconnect the battery negative (earth)lead (refer to Chapter 5A, Section 1).12 Prise the linkages off their ball pivots asrequired, using a suitably-sized open-endedspanner. The crank has a dual (verticallystacked) ball pivot with a bellows separatingthe two linkages (see illustrations).13 If the running faces of the ball pivots aredamaged, the pivot shaft(s) or crank must berenewed.RefittingWiper motor14 Refitting is a reversal of the removalprocedure, tightening all nuts and bolts to thespecified torque. Refit the expansion tank asdescribed in Chapter 3.Linkage15 Prior to refitting, grease the ball pivotsockets on the linkages, then locate them ontheir appropriate ball pivots and press into16.7 Unscrew the nut from the wipermotor driving shaft16.8a With the crank removed from thedriving shaft taper, undo the three wipermotor retaining bolts (arrowed)position using a suitably-sized socket. Thebellows between the two linkages on thecrank must also be greased using thespecified lubricant. Refit the bulkhead panelrubber seal on completion.17 Windscreen wiper pivotshaft - removal and refitting 2Removal1 Remove the windscreen wiper arms asdescribed in Section 15.1216.8b . . . and withdraw the wiper motorassembly16.12a Windscreen wiper linkageA Removal B Refitting16.12b Windscreen wiper motor bracketwith linkage and motor.
