Withdraw the injector retaining collar, then carefully withdraw the injector from theCFi unit (noting its orientation) followed by itsseals. Withdraw the seal from the retainingcollar (see illustrations).6 Refit in the reverse order of removal.Always use new seals in the CFi unit and theretaining collar, and lightly lubricate them withclean engine oil prior to assembly. Take carenot to damage the seals as they are fitted andas the injector is fitted, check that the locationpeg engages correctly.Fuel pressure regulator7 Refer to paragraphs 14 to 22 in this Sectionand remove the CFi unit from the vehicle.8 Unscrew and remove the four regulatorretaining screws, and remove the regulator(see illustration). As they are removed, notethe fitting positions and the orientation of thecomponents. Do not (unless absolutelynecessary) attempt to prise out the plug oradjust the screw in the centre of the housing(if no plug is fitted), as this will alter the systempressure.9 Examine the components, and renew anythat are defective or suspect.10 To refit, position the regulator on its side, then insert the small spring, the valve, diaphragm (ensuring that it seats correctly),large spring, cup and then the regulator cover.Insert and tighten the retaining screws, but14.5e Withdrawing the seal from theinjector retaining collartake care not overtighten them, or the coverwill be distorted.11 Carefully place the ball into position onthe spring cup, and ensure that it seatscorrectly.12 If removed, fit the central Allen typeadjuster screw, hand-tighten it and thenunscrew it (from the hand-tight position) threefull turns to make a provisional adjustment.13 Refit the CFi unit in accordance withparagraphs 23 to 25 in this Section, but notethat further checks for fuel leaks must bemade with the engine running. The fuelsystem pressure must be checked by a Forddealer or other suitable specialist at theearliest opportunity.CFi unit14 Relieve the residual pressure in the fuelsystem (see Section 2), and equalise tankpressure by removing the fuel filler cap.Warning: This procedure willmerely relieve the increasedpressure necessary for theengine to run - remember thatfuel will still be present in the systemcomponents, and take precautionsaccordingly before disconnecting any ofthem.15 Disconnect the battery negative (earth)lead (refer to Chapter 5A, Section 1).16 Refer to Section 4 and remove the aircleaner.17 Position a suitable drain tray under thecoolant hose connections to the CFi unit.14.8 Exploded view of the fuel pressureregulator assemblyEnsure that the cooling system is notpressurised (see Chapter 1), then detach thehoses from the unit. Plug or clamp the hosesto prevent further coolant spillage whilst thehoses are detached.Warning: DO NOT attempt toremove the expansion tank fillercap, or to disturb any part of thecooling system, while it or theengine is hot, as there is a very great riskof scalding. If the expansion tank filler capmust be removed before the engine andradiator have fully cooled down (eventhough this is not recommended) thepressure in the cooling system must firstbe released. Cover the cap with a thicklayer of cloth, to avoid scalding, and slowlyunscrew the filler cap until a hissing soundcan be heard. When the hissing hasstopped, showing that pressure isreleased, slowly unscrew the filler capfurther until it can be removed; if morehissing sounds are heard, wait until theyhave stopped before unscrewing the capcompletely. At all times, keep well awayfrom the filler opening.18 Disconnect the fuel return pipe from theCFi unit.19 Refer to Section 5 and disconnect theaccelerator cable from the CFi unit.20 Disconnect the inlet air temperaturesensor, throttle plate control motor andthrottle position sensor wiring multi-plugconnectors.
