Our method gives no false alarms in any of these sequences.2.5 SummaryIn this chapter, an algorithm for flame detection in visible range video is developed.The algorithm not only uses color and temporal variation information, butalso characterizes flicker process in flames using HMMs trained with 1-D temporalwavelet transform coefficients and color variation in fire-colored moving regionsusing 2-D spatial wavelet transform. Methods based on only color informationand ordinary motion detection may produce false alarms in real scenes where nofires are taking place. The experimental results show that false alarms can bedrastically reduced by developing a Markovian setting with temporal and spatialwavelet analysis.The method can be used for detection of fire in movies and video databases,as well as real-time detection of fire. It can be incorporated into a surveillancesystem monitoring an indoor or outdoor area of interest for early detection offire.
