Büyük Önder Atatürk’ün 19 Mayıs’ıgençlere armağan etmesi, işte bu anlama gelir.19 Mayıs Kurtuluş Savaşı’na ve TürkiyeCumhuriyeti’ne uzanan o meşakkatli yolculuğunilk durağıdır çünkü.Atatürk, o yolculuğa hangi şartlarda ve nedençıktığını, Nutuk’ta şöyle anlatır:“Osmanlı ülkeleri tamamen parçalanmıştı. Ortadabir avuç Türkün barındığı bir ata yurdu kalmıştı.Son sorun, bunun da paylaşılmasını sağlamakiçin uğraşılmaktan başka bir şey değildi. OsmanlıDevleti, onun bağımsızlığı, padişah, halife,hükûmet, bunların hepsi anlamını yitirmiş birtakımanlamsız sözlerdi. Bu durum karşısında bir tekkarar vardı. O da ulus egemenliğine dayanan,tam bağımsız, yeni bir Türk devleti kurmak. İşte,daha İstanbul’dan çıkmadan önce düşündüğümüzve Samsun’da Anadolu topraklarına ayak basarbasmaz uygulamaya başladığımız karar, bu kararolmuştur.”Dünya tarihinde benzerine pek az rastlananbir adımdır Samsun’da atılan. Çünkü o adımınsonrasında imkansız denilen başarılmıştır. Yokoluşun eşiğindeki bir ülkeden bir vatan yaratılmıştır.Atatürk de gençler o yolculuğu hiç unutmasındiye 19 Mayıs’ı bayrama dönüştürmüştür. Ancakbu bayram aynı zamanda bir sorumluluk, birgörevdir.Peki, o sorumluluğun gerekleri nasıl yerinegetirilir? Elbette öncelikle, toplumsal hayatakatıldığımız yer her neresi ise orada görevimizilayıkıyla yerine getirerek... Ülke gerçeklerini takipedip öğrenerek ve geleceğimizin şekillenmesindepay sahibi olarak... Ve en önemlisi, 19 Mayıs’ınherhangi bir gün değil, bizi bugünlere taşıyan “OGÜN” olduğunu hep hatırlayarak...The day our future wasdeterminedYouth is the future of a country. It is its hope. The fact thatGreat Leader Atatürk dedicated May 19 th to youth meansexactly that. May 19 th is the first stop on the strenous journeytowards the Independence War and the Republic of Turkey.Atatürk explains why and under which circumstances he undertookthat journey in his “Speech” in following terms:“Ottoman Empire was completely dismantled. There was justa piece of land left in the middle where very few Turks lived.The last thing left for them to do was to complete the partitionof that land and to decide how they would share it betweenthem. Ottoman State, its independence, the Sultan, the Caliphate,the government, all these were emptied words. Therewas just one decision to be made under these conditions. Thatwas to establish a completely independent, new Turkish Statethat is based on national sovereignty. That was the decision wemade before we left İstanbul and we started executing it, oncewe set foot on Anatolian land at Samsun.”What happened in Samsun is a seldom seen event in theWorld. After that, what was tought to be impossible wasachieved. From a country at the brink of total destructiona motherland was created. Atatürk declared May 19 th to aholiday for the young people of his country to commemmorateand always remember the beginning of that journey. Howeverthis holiday is also a responsibility, a duty.Well, how does one implement the requirements of this particularresponsibility? Of course, first and foremost, by adequatelyfulfilling our duties wherever we stand in social life... By followingand learning about the truth in our country and having ashare in the shaping of our future...
