Sodra Dağı’nın eteklerinde, Milas Ovası’na tepeden bakan bir yerleşim.Adını, Rüzgarlar Tanrısı Aiolos’un soyundan gelen Mylassos’danalıyor. Belki de bu yüzden, yazın sıcağında bile burası püfür püfüresiyor. Milas’tan söz ediyoruz, Muğla’nın en güzel ilçelerinden biri olanMilas’tan… Ama belki de yanından geçip gittiğiniz, havaalanındaninince asıl gideceğiniz yere yetişmek için onun güzelliğine bakma fırsatıbulamadığınız Milas’tan…Gelin bu defa geçmeyelim. Tarihi ve doğasıyla harika bir belde olan,Antik Dönem’in parlak yerleşim alanı Milas’ta biraz dolaşalım.Milas, Muğla’nın Bodrum’dan sonra ikinci büyük yerleşim merkezi. Arkeolojikaraştırmalara göre kentin kuruluşu MÖ 10. yüzyıla kadar uzanıyor.Milas’ın tarih sahnesinde ilk öne çıkışı Karya’nın başkenti olmasıylagerçekleşiyor. Kentin o tarihteki adı “Mylasosn”. Let’s stroll around this city that is amazing bothhistorically and naturally, a city which is a bright settlement of Ancient Period.Milas, is the second biggest settlement of Muğla following Bodrum. According toarcheological research the first settlement dates back to B.C. 10 th century. Milasappears in the scenery of history as the capital of Caria. The name of the city backthen is “Mylasa”. We said Milas appears back then; the reason for that is not itsamazing nature or a success in commerce, a much powerful reason attracts peopleto this city; the temple of Zeus Carius, the national God of all Caria was located here.This is why Milas is the cross-site of Carians, a people who lived in SouthWesternAnatolia.There are 27 antic cities inside its bordersMilas was home to various civilizations; traces of 27 different ancient cities havebeen encountered so far. However all of these remainings did not stood up time.Iasos, Labraunda, Euromus, Heraclea are among the ones you can still visit. Besidesmany ancient cities, Milas has been home to East Roman Empire, Seljuq Dynasty,the Seigniory of Menteş and Ottoman Empire.
