Desiccant Air DryersHeatless, Heated and Heated Blower

Desiccant Dryers...DesiccantOur reliable high strength, non-acidic desiccantprovides maximum performance and is easilystored and handled. Environmentally friendly,it eliminates worries associated with othertypes of dryers, such as refrigerant leaks, spills and disposal.2 Desiccant Dryers

Designed for ReliabilityWhen we designed the Ingersoll Rand heatless, heated and heated blower desiccant dryers weset our sights on creating the most reliabledesiccant dryers you can purchase and operate. And our success was extraordinary. We set anew standard, and, in fact, re-wrote the book. One look tells you that these dryers are likeno others…extremely low silhouette…manifolds and valves within an arm's reach ofthe operator…readily accessible fill and drainports…just a few of the differences apparenton the outside. Both externally and internally, each model combines innovative engineeringand technically advanced, highly durablecomponents, to provide easy installation, operation, maintenance, and, simply, the mostreliable desiccant dryers available.New Low Profile DesignTraditional DesignLow Profile DesignOur easy access design places key maintenancepoints at operator level for faster servicing andless downtime. The lower silhouette also allowsupright shipment and facilitates installation.Easy to Maintain High Performance ValvesWith manifolds angled toward the center atoperator level, the valves are easily accessedfor maintenance. A typical diaphragm valve ina heatless dryer can be rebuilt in less than tenminutes, without removing the valve fromthe manifold.State of the Art ControllerThe advanced microprocessor-controllermaintains dryer performance at optimum levels. It constantly monitors dryer functions andprovides alert when maintenance is required sothat downtime is held to a minimum.Desiccant Dryers3

Selecting An Ingersoll RandDesiccant DryerAll three technologies – heatless, heated andheated blower – use twin desiccant towers andstrategically positioned valves for the processof drying compressed air. Each Ingersoll Randmodel incorporates high-strength desiccantand durable, easily maintained valves forunsurpassed reliability, performance andcustomer value.Whether using a heatless, heated or heatedblower dryer, the compressed air producedis thoroughly dried as it is directed throughthe on-line desiccant-filled tower of the dryer. As the desiccant in this tower adsorbs moisturefrom the air, the desiccant in the dryer’soff-line tower is purged of moisture and readiedfor use. The basic difference in the threetechnologies is the manner in which moistureis desorbed from the desiccant, also knownas regeneration. To air systemHeatless DryersSimplest of the three technologies, the heatlessdryer diverts a portion of the dried compressedair to the off-line tower. This dry air then flowsthrough and regenerates the desiccant. Thepurge air, now moisture laden, is harmlesslyexhausted through a muffler to the atmosphere.Lowest in capital investment, this technologymay be more expensive to operate because itrequires a portion of the dried compressedair to be diverted from the air system fordesiccant regeneration.HL heatless desiccant dryerHeatless dryers offer the lowestcapital investment. From air compressor4 Desiccant Dryers

From air compressorHeatedThese dryers operate similarly to heatless dryers, with a big exception. Dried air diverted from theair system is first passed through a high efficiencyexternal heater before entering the off-line tankto regenerate the desiccant. Since this heated aircan hold considerably more moisture thanunheated air, only about half the amount ofdried compressed air is needed for regeneration.Although the addition of the heater andassociated components raises the initial capitalinvestment for a heated dryer, less divertedcompressed air means lower operating costs.Heated BlowerThis type of dryer does not divert driedcompressed air from the air system to removemoisture from the desiccant in the off-line tank.Rather, it employs its own high performancecentrifugal blower to direct ambient air througha heater and then through the off-line tank. There the stream of heated air regenerates thedesiccant. Heated blower technology requires thehighest initial capital investment, but with no orlittle diversion of compressed air from thesystem for regeneration, it offers significantlylower operating costs than the other twodesiccant dryer technologies. From air compressorEH heated desiccant dryerHeated dryers offer a compromise betweenoperating efficiency and capital investment. To air systemSo, how do you select the right desiccant dryertechnology? That depends on the variables, such assystem demand, compressed air capacity, air qualityrequirements, and applicable life cycle costs, thatare unique to your compressed air system.HB heated blower desiccant dryerHeated blower dryers offer the lowestoperating cost.To air systemDesiccant Dryers5

Ingersoll Rand HL HeatlessDesiccant Dryerentering the dryer, and an after-filter to makesure that only clean dried air exits the dryer. As an additional design precaution, the dryer’sswitching valves are normally open and purgevalves normally closed, to allow air flowthrough the dryer in case of power loss.A standard feature of every Ingersoll Randheatless desiccant dryer is its NEMA 4 package, providing increased protection of electricalcomponents, as well as advanced digital dryercontrols and displays. It includes a NEMA 4electrical enclosure to protect against water andcondensation, a UL/ULC panel, and an advanceddigital electronic controller. In addition, everyHL comes standard with a compressor interlockfeature. This substantially prolongs compressorlife and improves reliability.HL heatless desiccant dryerAvailable in flows ranging from 120 SCFM(3.4 nm 3 /min.) to 1800 SCFM (51.0 nm 3 /min.),Ingersoll Rand HL heatless desiccant dryers aredesigned to ensure a constant –40°F (-40°C) oroptionally –100°F (-70°C) pressure dew point, virtually eliminating costly interruption ofproduction due to moisture. Clean air is furtherassured by use of strategically placed filters: apre-filter to remove oil andcontaminants in airWhile reliability has been a key focus of itsdesign, the Ingersoll Rand HL heatless desiccantdryer is also a leader in its class for energyefficiency and the health and safety ofoperating personnel and the environment.6 Desiccant Dryers
