LOCAL REGULATIONS AND POLICIESKAMPLAN 2004: The Official Community PlanKAMPLAN 2004: The Official Community Plan is <strong>the</strong> statement <strong>of</strong> goals, objectives andoverarching policies to guide decisions on planning and land use management within <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Kamloops</strong>, respecting <strong>the</strong> purposes <strong>of</strong> local government. Section III: Neighbourhoods Item1.7 relates to policies <strong>for</strong> rural areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong>. Based on feedback from <strong>the</strong> local agriculturalsector, this section and Section 5.0 Agricultural/Resource Lands <strong>of</strong> KAMPLAN should be updatedand expanded to better support commercial agriculture in <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong>. A thorough review andupdate <strong>of</strong> existing local policies related to agriculture will be conducted upon completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>AAP.Section 917 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> LocalGovernment Act provideslocal governments with <strong>the</strong>authority to adopt farm bylawsto regulate farmmanagement activities infarm areas.The Official Community Plan can be accessed fromhttp://www.city.kamloops.bc.ca/kamplan/index.shtml.Sustainable <strong>Kamloops</strong> Plan 2010: Foundations <strong>for</strong> SustainabilityAn AAP <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kamloops</strong> is identified as a high priority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> public in <strong>the</strong> Sustainable <strong>Kamloops</strong> Plan. The followingpolicy statements pertaining to agriculture and food are identified in <strong>the</strong> Sustainable <strong>Kamloops</strong> Plan:Ensuring more food is grown locally to respond to impacts elsewhere and ensuring water conservation measures areimplemented;Increasing <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> active farms in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Kamloops</strong> area;Considering establishment <strong>of</strong> an urban growth boundary; andProtecting viable ALR lands in order to safeguard local food production capabilities.Agriculture planning is intrinsically linked to all <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> key sustainability components identified in <strong>the</strong> Sustainable <strong>Kamloops</strong>Plan: Foundations <strong>for</strong> Sustainability. This plan sets <strong>the</strong> stage <strong>for</strong> <strong>future</strong> <strong>sustainable</strong> growth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> and considers <strong>the</strong>importance <strong>of</strong> striving <strong>for</strong> balance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> integrated goal <strong>of</strong> economic prosperity, social well-being and environmentalstewardship.A brief description <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> linkage between <strong>the</strong> AAP and <strong>the</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sustainable <strong>Kamloops</strong> Plan is included in Appendix3.
