AGRICULTURAL RESOURCE BASEBASELINE MAPPINGBaseline agriculture maps have been developed illustrating agriculture in<strong>Kamloops</strong> today and potential <strong>for</strong> <strong>future</strong> expansion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> industry. The followingsections describe <strong>the</strong> maps in detail.Farm Properties (Map 3)There are currently 309 <strong>Kamloops</strong> properties classified as farms by BCAssessment. Map 3 identifies <strong>the</strong> 309 farm properties, 241 <strong>of</strong> which are locatedwithin <strong>the</strong> ALR and 68 <strong>of</strong> which are not.Growing Fruits and Vegetables in <strong>Kamloops</strong> (Map 4)Class 9, Farm - to qualify as a farm <strong>for</strong> BCAssessment purposes (not linked to ALCdefinitions) and to maintain farm status, <strong>the</strong>land must produce a prescribed amount <strong>of</strong>qualifying primary agricultural products <strong>for</strong>sale, such as crops or livestock. Existing farming areas within <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong> include Heffley Creek, Westsyde, andBarnhartvale with <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> food production occurring in Heffley Creek and Westsyde. Tranquille on <strong>the</strong> Lake isregenerating in terms <strong>of</strong> agricultural activity and is showing potential as a fourth farming area within <strong>the</strong> <strong>City</strong>.CITY OF KAMLOOPS 17
