5.3.2 Precise Fair Share Computation Option<br />

Given <strong>the</strong> actual rates of all active sources, we can exactly calculate <strong>the</strong> fair share<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> MIT algorithm [18, 17] (MIT scheme uses desired rates). Thus, <strong>in</strong>stead<br />

of us<strong>in</strong>g only <strong>the</strong> number of active VCs, we could use <strong>the</strong> OCRs of various sources<br />

to compute <strong>the</strong> fair share. This option yields a per<strong>for</strong>mance much better than that<br />

possible with MIT scheme because of <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g features that are absent <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

MIT scheme:<br />
