<strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Argentine Association <strong>of</strong> Pediatric <strong>Dermatology</strong>ASADEPE’s endorsement <strong>of</strong> their products for children.These agreements made it possible to organizediverse meetings for the purpose <strong>of</strong> spreading informationregarding skin care, some <strong>of</strong> the meetingsbeing aimed at physicians and others open to the generalpublic.On March 31st, 2001, the first scientific meeting <strong>of</strong>the year was held at the Museum <strong>of</strong> the Reconquest inthe city <strong>of</strong> Tigre, Buenos Aires province. The secondscientific meeting took place on June 23rd in the halls<strong>of</strong> the Palais Rouge in the city <strong>of</strong> Buenos Aires.Between the months <strong>of</strong> March and July, 2002, inpursuance <strong>of</strong> a program designed by the outreachsubcommittee headed by Dr. Mirta Vázquez, a secondcycle <strong>of</strong> workshops on Pediatric <strong>Dermatology</strong> was held at diverse hospitals in the city <strong>of</strong>Buenos Aires and surrounding area, with the participation <strong>of</strong> numerous fellow pediatriciansand dermatologists.On September 7th and 8th, under the presidency <strong>of</strong> Dr. José Antonio Mássimo, theFirst Argentine Congress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> <strong>of</strong> the Adolescent was held very successfully,with Drs. Anne Lucky and Elaine Siegfried <strong>of</strong> the U.S. as special guests and with the presence<strong>of</strong> numerous Argentine specialists. On this occasion there were more than 600 participants.The Congress having concluded, on September 25 the Governing Board was renewedfor the 2001-2003 period, and was constituted as follows: president, José Antonio Mássimo;vice-president, María Teresa Zabala; general secretary, Pedro García Zubillaga;scientific secretary, Pedro Rovere; treasurer, Carlos Lorenzano; full members GracielaManzur and Grete Bloch, substitute members Nancy Leston and Jorge Verges, and, asmembers <strong>of</strong> the monitoring organ, full account reviewers Anita Rossi and Ana MaríaLorenz and substitute account reviewer María A. García.This new board gave a definite boost to the task <strong>of</strong> equipping <strong>of</strong> theassociation’s headquarters with the addition <strong>of</strong> materials and equipmentfor the appropriate performance <strong>of</strong> its scientific and social activities. Thelibrary was inaugurated with two computers for carrying out bibliographicalsearches; a third computer was installed to search for textsand a permanent secretary was hired.With the increase in activities, ASADEPE speedily increased the number<strong>of</strong> members — pediatricians and dermatologists interested in thisnew movement, Pediatric <strong>Dermatology</strong>.Of the three established annual scientific gatherings, it was decidedto hold two in the city <strong>of</strong> Buenos Aires and the third in diverse parts <strong>of</strong>the country, so as to take this field to the most remote regions.In the month <strong>of</strong> October, ASADEPE participated actively in the scientificprogram <strong>of</strong> the Ninth World Congress <strong>of</strong> Pediatric <strong>Dermatology</strong> carriedout in Cancún, with a delegation <strong>of</strong> twelve specialists.The year’s scientific activities ended on December 1 at the Main Auditorium <strong>of</strong> the PrivateCommunity Hospital <strong>of</strong> Mar del Plata, with a scientific event that served as launchingpad for the Photoeducation Campaign on the beaches.In the year 2002 the outreach and events subcommittee, led by Dr. Mirta Vázquez, organizeda dissemination network that allowed the institution’s activities and DPA magazineto reach Argentina’s furthest corners.That year’s scientific activities began on April 20, on which date the first meeting washeld in the halls <strong>of</strong> the Palais Rouge in the city <strong>of</strong> Buenos Aires.Figure 5.
