History of Latin American Dermatology

MÁSSIMO, PEDRO GARCÍA ZUBILLAGA, GRACIELA MANZUR, MIRTA VÁZQUEZFigures 1 and 2.ASADEPEassociationheadquarterschanged to convention halls with a larger seating capacity, and the annual program ofthree meetings was launched with numerous physicians being able to hear and communicatediverse experiences.In the year 2000 the scientific meetings were for the first time held outside the hospitals.The first took place on April 29 in the halls of the Palais Rouge in the city ofBuenos Aires, the second on June 24 at the same venue and the third on December 9 inthe city of La Falda, province of Córdoba.Between the months of April and November, with the invaluable assistance of the outreachsubcommittee led by Dr. Mirta Vázquez, an ambitious plan was undertaken tomake the society known at diverse hospitals in the city of Buenos Aires and its suburbs,by carrying out courses and workshops in this field, which at the diverse meetingsbrought together more than 1,300 physicians.Figures 3 and 4.Official opening ofthe associationheadquartersOn August 25th and 26th, 2000, the First Argentine Congress of Neonatal Dermatologywas successfully held, under the presidency of Drs. Silvia Teresita Pueyo and JoséAntonio Mássimo, with the presence of Dr. Lawrence Schachner of the U.S. (Figure 6) andother well-known specialists within our midst, and with the presence of more than 500participants among pediatricians, dermatologists and neonatologists.In the year 2001 a program was implemented to allow the society to reach out to thecommunity, through agreements with diverse commercial entities that requested58
