Dr. EldaCanadellElda Canadell 15Born in Buenos Aires in 1934, she graduated as a Doctor in 1958 at the UBA MedicalSchool. She completed her <strong>Dermatology</strong> training at the Chair <strong>of</strong> the Ramos Mejía Hospital,with Dr. Marcial Quiroga. She obtained Peruvian nationality through marriage, recertifyingher pr<strong>of</strong>essional Surgical Doctor degree at the National Higher University <strong>of</strong> St.Mark; subsequently, she obtained the degree <strong>of</strong> Specialist in <strong>Dermatology</strong>, becoming one<strong>of</strong> the initiators and exponents <strong>of</strong> Cosmetic <strong>Dermatology</strong> in Peru (Figure 21).Thanks to the certificates granted by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Quiroga, she was accepted in Pr<strong>of</strong>essorAurelio Loret de Mola’s Chair, where she became Head <strong>of</strong> Internships, and the firstwoman dermatologist to teach.In 1962, she was part <strong>of</strong> the group <strong>of</strong> founding pr<strong>of</strong>essors <strong>of</strong> the Cayetano Heredia PeruvianUniversity, and began working academically at the Medical School <strong>of</strong> that teachinginstitution.In 1972, she was invited to be part <strong>of</strong> the group <strong>of</strong> St. Mark University lecturers, firstas Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, and subsequently as Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor, in Pr<strong>of</strong>essor AizicCotlear’s Chair.Doctor Canadell, a greatly devoted educator, is tutor <strong>of</strong> Pediatrics Residents in thespecialized field <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> at the Pediatrics Department <strong>of</strong> Hospital Area No. 6 <strong>of</strong>Callao and at the Children’s Hospital, for the National Higher University <strong>of</strong> St. Mark andthe Federico Villarreal University.She has participated in many courses as well as national and international congresses,including those organized by Lima’s Peruvian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> and by its Arequipabranch, by the Peru Female Medical Association, and by the Peruvian Society <strong>of</strong> Pathologists.She has also participated in the medical contests <strong>of</strong> the Pan-<strong>American</strong> MedicalWomen’s Alliance: in those <strong>of</strong> the Peruvian Association <strong>of</strong> Cosmetic Chemistry; in the FirstArgentine Medical Congress, and in various Symposia and Seminaries <strong>of</strong> CILAD-PERÚ.Since 1963, she is an active member <strong>of</strong> the Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>(CILAD). She was also one <strong>of</strong> the founders <strong>of</strong> the Peruvian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>.She is the author <strong>of</strong> various articles in specialized papers and journals, and <strong>of</strong> somechapters <strong>of</strong> the book, Updates in Therapeutics, and <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Dermatology</strong> Handbook, bothpublished by the National Higher University <strong>of</strong> St. Mark.Alejandro Morales 17Dr. Morales is a dermatologist, born in Trujillo, Peru, in 1933. In 1959, he obtainedthe degree <strong>of</strong> Surgical Doctor at the National Higher University <strong>of</strong> St. Mark. He completedhis graduate specialization studies at the Henry Ford Hospital (Detroit), where he alsocompleted his internship and residency in Internal Medicine, between 1959 and 1961,and a residency in <strong>Dermatology</strong>, from 1961 a 1964. He carried out Dermatopathologystudies with Dr. G. Pinkus (Michigan), from 1964 to 1965.Dr. Morales is a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the <strong>American</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, since 1965, and <strong>of</strong>the <strong>American</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> Dermatopathology, since 1976, having been certified with the<strong>American</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> and with the <strong>American</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Dermatopathology.From 1965 to 1971, he joined Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Cotlear’s <strong>Dermatology</strong> School at the UNSMMedical School as Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, having been a member <strong>of</strong> the specializationin <strong>Dermatology</strong> committee <strong>of</strong> that University in 1974. He was Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor<strong>of</strong> Clinical Medicine at Michigan University in 1978, 1980, 1982 and 1984.In his treatment work, he was Associate at the <strong>Dermatology</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Detroit’sHenry Ford Hospital from 1975 to 1980, and Vice-Chairman <strong>of</strong> that same Departmentfrom 1981 to 1984.326
