<strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> in PeruPERUVIAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF THE IBERO-LATIN AMERICAN COLLEGEOF DERMATOLOGY (CCP-CILAD). PERUVIAN NATIONAL COMMITTEEOF THE IBERO-LATIN AMERICAN COLLEGE OF DERMATOLOGYIn 1979, the CILAD annual meeting elected Luis Flores-Cevallos as Peruvian Delegatefor a four-year term, and was reelected in 1983 for another four years. The President <strong>of</strong>the CILAD, Jorge Abulafia, wanted to work in coordination with the president <strong>of</strong> the PeruvianSociety <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>; but, despite the efforts carried out to that end, an agreementfor the organization <strong>of</strong> a joint working plan could not be reached. Because <strong>of</strong> this,and in order to make up for lost time, in 1984 Luis Flores decided to conform the PeruvianCentral Committee <strong>of</strong> the CILAD (C. C. P.-CILAD), which later changed its name tothe Peruvian National Committee <strong>of</strong> the Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> 10 .His collaborators were Drs. Zuño Burstein and Víctor Meth as Press and Promotion Secretaries;Wenceslao Castillo, General Secretary; Elda Canadell, Treasurer. The committeewas the seeding ground that allowed the Peruvian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> to emergefrom the stagnation it had fallen into. Clinical-pathological Meetings were programmed.In October 1986, Dr. Zuño Burstein began, with Dr. Víctor Meth, the publication <strong>of</strong> thePeruvian Dermatological Folio, an <strong>of</strong>ficial organ <strong>of</strong> the institution, with major informative,scientific and institutional content, distributed nationally and abroad.The Peruvian National Committee <strong>of</strong> the CILAD also took care <strong>of</strong> administrative obligations,paying up overdue fees to the CILAD and LIDS tutelary institutions, and thus preventingthe expulsion <strong>of</strong> Peru. The Committee also ensured the participation <strong>of</strong> Peruviandermatologists in international events, such as the Eighteenth World Congress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>in Berlin, in 1987, and the Tenth CILAD Congress in Madrid, in the same year.PERUVIAN IBERO-LATIN AMERICAN COLLEGE OF DERMATOLOGY (CILAD- PERU)In 1991, at the Twelfth Congress <strong>of</strong> the CILAD, in Guadalajara, Mexico, under thepresidency <strong>of</strong> Enrique Hernández Pérez, the CILAD Assembly elected Dr. Zuño Bursteinas the new Peruvian National Delegate. In accordance with his duties and with thewishes <strong>of</strong> the new president, Dr. Burstein reconstituted the Peruvian National Committee<strong>of</strong> the Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>. The Committee functioned as suchup to September 7, 1994, when, upon that base, the Peruvian Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> College<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> (CILAD-PERU) was founded. CILAD-PERU was recognized as a newdermatological scientific medical institution by the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Public Health and the PeruvianMedical Association on March 9, 1995, and was registered in the Lima PublicRecords 11 . This institution undertook major scientific activity and continued with thepublication <strong>of</strong> the Peruvian Dermatological Folio.PERUVIAN DERMATOLOGICAL CIRCLE (CIDERM- PERU)On May 5, 1999, CILAD-PERU changed its denomination to CIDERM-PERU (PeruvianDermatological Circle) 12 , keeping its bylaws. CIDERM-PERU then became affiliated tothe International League <strong>of</strong> Dermatological Societies (ILDS) under this new name.At present, the Peruvian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> and the Peruvian Dermatological Circle(CIDERM-PERU) are the Peruvian institutions that are acknowledged and registeredat the International League <strong>of</strong> Dermatological Societies.During its existence as CILAD-PERU and later as CIDERM-PERU, the boards <strong>of</strong> directors<strong>of</strong> this institution have been successively presided by Drs. Zuño Burstein, FranciscoBravo and, at present, Rafael Gamarra.CIDERM-PERU permanently encourages Peruvian dermatologists to participate in nationaland international scientific events that keep them updated on the latest advancesin this specialized field and also procures and provides grants, preferably to young dermatologists,to make it easier for them to take part.CIDERM-PERU has carried on with periodic clinical-pathological meetings and theoretical313
