<strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> Nicaraguan <strong>Dermatology</strong>and several cases <strong>of</strong> pediatric nodular leprosy were found. She also participated in thefield work carried out in 1996 on El Zapote, Real de la Cruz and Sabana Larga communities,in the Department <strong>of</strong> Matagalpa, where the wells that provided drinking waterwere found to be contaminated with arsenic, detecting 111 persons with CHA. She hasparticipated in foreign congresses as a lecturer and at national congresses as a guestpr<strong>of</strong>essor, presenting her experiences and work.She is currently a faculty member <strong>of</strong> the undergraduate Chair at the Autonomous NationalUniversity <strong>of</strong> Nicaragua (Managua) Medical School.Dr. Alina Gómez: She coordinated the field work conducted in the San Francisco LibreDistrict, Managua Department, where a leprosy focus was found, and participated withDr. Luz Cantillo in the field work in which 111 patients with CHA were detected. At theTwenty-Second Central <strong>American</strong> Congress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, held in the city <strong>of</strong> Panama,she won the first prize in the presentation <strong>of</strong>charts with summaries <strong>of</strong> the arsenic cases.She has participated in foreign congresses asa lecturer and at national congresses as aguest pr<strong>of</strong>essor, presenting her experiencesand work. For one year, she was a facultymember <strong>of</strong> the undergraduate and graduateChairs <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>.Dr. Leónidas Pacheco Mora: He was thepresident <strong>of</strong> the Nicaraguan Association <strong>of</strong><strong>Dermatology</strong> during 1996-1998. He was incharge <strong>of</strong> the organization <strong>of</strong> two nationalcongresses <strong>of</strong> the specialized field. He hasparticipated as a guest pr<strong>of</strong>essor at variousnational congresses.Dr. José Miguel Gutiérrez Arostegui: He was the president <strong>of</strong> the Nicaraguan Association<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> during 1998-2000 and, as such, organized two national congresses<strong>of</strong> the specialized field. He was the head <strong>of</strong> the National Center <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>during 1997-1998.Dr. María Luisa Álvarez Ortiz: She was the president <strong>of</strong> the Nicaraguan Association<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> during 2000-2002; in this period, she organized two National Congresses<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>. She has participated at national congresses as a guest pr<strong>of</strong>essor and atforeign congresses as a lecturer, presenting her experiences and work.Dr. Erasmo Aguilar Díaz: Since 2002, he is the coordinator <strong>of</strong> the graduate program in<strong>Dermatology</strong>. He has participated as a guest pr<strong>of</strong>essor in national congresses. He participatedin the field work in Matagalpa Department, where 111 patients with CHA were found.Figure 10.
