ENRIQUE URAGA PEÑA (1902-1980)He was born in the city <strong>of</strong> Guayaquil. Founder and first Head <strong>of</strong> the Ecuadorian Society<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, an <strong>of</strong>fice he held for two periods before becoming Honorary President.Founder <strong>of</strong> the first <strong>Dermatology</strong> Service <strong>of</strong> Guayaquil. Full pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong><strong>Dermatology</strong> at Guayaquil University. Head <strong>of</strong> Guayaquil University’s Medical School.Member <strong>of</strong> various Dermatological Societies <strong>of</strong> <strong>Latin</strong> America (Figure 5).DR. WENCESLAO OLLAGUE LOAYZA (1927-1990)He was born in the city <strong>of</strong> Santa Rosa, province <strong>of</strong> El Oro, but carried out his pr<strong>of</strong>essionalactivities in the city <strong>of</strong> Guayaquil. Considered by many to be the most outstandingEcuadorian dermatologist, he studied in Madrid with Gay Prieto and Gómez Orbanejas.Founder <strong>of</strong> the Ecuadorian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, <strong>of</strong> which he was president on severaloccasions. He held the highest posts at the Bolivarian Federation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> and atthe Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> Association <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>. Founder <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Dermatology</strong>,Venereology and Allergy Unit <strong>of</strong> the EISS in Guayaquil, which now carries his name. Fullpr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> at the Medical School <strong>of</strong> Guayaquil University and <strong>of</strong> the Santiagode Guayaquil Catholic University. Author <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Dermatology</strong> Handbook. A pr<strong>of</strong>oundresearcher, he carried out much scientific work that yielded publications in national andforeign journals. His greatest merit was to take Ecuadorian <strong>Dermatology</strong> to the highestworld levels (Figure 6).DR. RAÚL MURGUEYTIO STACEY (1924-1992)He was born in the city <strong>of</strong> Jipijapa, province <strong>of</strong> Manabí, and carried out his pr<strong>of</strong>essionalactivities in the city <strong>of</strong> Quito. Trained at Baltimore, Philadelphia and New Yorkhospitals, he returned to work as a dermatologist at the Baca Ortiz, Andrade Marín andSOLCA Hospitals. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> at Quito Central University’s Medical School.Founder and first president <strong>of</strong> the Ecuadorian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, Quito Nucleus.Member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>American</strong> Academy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, <strong>of</strong> the Ibero-<strong>Latin</strong> <strong>American</strong> Association<strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong>, <strong>of</strong> the Ecuadorian Society <strong>of</strong> Pediatrics and <strong>of</strong> the Ecuadorian MedicalAcademy (Figure 7).197
