Álvaro Sabogal Rey (Figure35) was the pioneer and dean <strong>of</strong> regional <strong>Dermatology</strong>,followed by other members includingVirgilio Rodríguez, Alejandro Villalobos, LuisMoreno and Jaime Acevedo; Andrés Torres, Juan F.Hernández and Hernando Mosquera; Evencio Saza,Miguel Zárate, Zulma Plata, Pablo Rey, Donaldo Ortiz, Miguel F. Duarte and Luz StellaMontoya; Armando Vásquez, Jairo Sabogal, Alfinger Celi and his wife Lourdes Eid, RicardoFlaminio Rojas, Edgar Moreno, Mabel Ávila, Carolina Chávez, Sandra O. Martínez,Martha S. Ramírez and Luisa H. Díaz. In June 1994 the Chapter was founded, and wasbrilliantly presided until 2002 by Luz Stella Montoya de Bayona, who was succeeded byArmando Vásquez Lobo.h) C<strong>of</strong>fee-Growing Axis —Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda.The first to have a practice in Manizales wasHeriberto Gómez Sierra, in 1965, aided by his discipleJairo Mesa and by Bernardo Giraldo; FelipeJaramillo, Lucía Van den Enden and John HarveyGaviria practiced later. In Pereira the pioneer wasAdolfo Ormaza; in Armenia, Fabio Rivera, MaríaBernarda Gáfaro, Julio César Vélez, Silvia Ferrer,Rafael Isaza and Carlos Horacio González. The Chapterwas constituted on October 4, 2003, and is currentlypresided by Germán Santacoloma Osorio. Itbrings together 32 dermatologists and 2 honorarymembers, Adolfo Ormaza Hinestrosa (Figure 36) andJairo Mesa Cock, who is at the present time the mainColombian figure in the field <strong>of</strong> ongoing education through virtual technology.i) Chapter <strong>of</strong> the Center-East. It was founded in September 2003 in Bogotá by MichelFaizal Geagea; it is formed by the colleagues <strong>of</strong> the departments <strong>of</strong> Boyacá, Meta, Tolima,Huila and Caquetá and <strong>of</strong> the Cundinamarca city administrations other than Bogotá.Figure 32.Bernardo HuykeFigure 33. Hugo Corrales Lugo was the first to havea practice in Córdoba, followed by Albio Puche. In 1983 the new era in this field waslaunched with the arrival <strong>of</strong> the first school-trained dermatologist, Adolfo del CristoGómez Agámez (Figure 37), who studied in Mexico and Argentina and held the chair atthe Medical School <strong>of</strong> the University Corporation <strong>of</strong> the Sinú (CUS). Later there arrivedRómulo Bitar, Víctor Otero, José Joaquín Meza, Catalina Zárate and Samira Acosta. InSucre, Hugo Corrales Medrano was the pioneer; practicing at the current time are MufithSalaiman, Jorge Vargas and Gabriel Rey. The Chapter was formed in 2004 and ispresided by Catalina Zárate.k) Chapter <strong>of</strong> Norte de Santander. Pedro Miguel Román Suárez was the pioneer, who promoted<strong>Dermatology</strong> in the region until his death in 2003. In April 2004 the Chapter was133
