It was created in Cali in 1963 by Hernán TobónPizarro, Jaime Betancourt Osorio — first President — and Ernesto Correa Galindo; it includes66 standing members, 5 honorary membersand 8 candidates. The roster <strong>of</strong> presidents has alsoincluded Rafael Falabella, Martha Helena Campo,Jairo Victoria, Luis Hernando Moreno, MyriamJazmín Vargas, César Iván Varela Hernández (Figure29) and Rodolfo Augusto Trujillo. Dr. Varelapresided over the chapter from 1996 to 2004, carryingout significant administrative work and obtainingtranscendental trade achievements; thevice-president, Jaime Gil Jaramillo (Figure 30), hascarried out pioneering work in the dissemination <strong>of</strong>dermatological issues in the media. In 2003, the40 th anniversary <strong>of</strong> its founding was commemorated,on which occasion tribute was paid to thehonorary members Jaime Betancourt, Antonio Torres,Rafael Falabella, Daniel González Bermúdez and Cecilia Moncaleano, and Dr. Varelapresented his book <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> in the Valley <strong>of</strong> the Cauca 1939-2003. Inrecognition <strong>of</strong> the work performed, the Chapter and Dr. Torres were awarded the Order<strong>of</strong> Merit <strong>of</strong> the Valley <strong>of</strong> the Cauca by the departmental government 21 .c) Antioquia Chapter. The Antioquian Society <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dermatology</strong> was created in Medellín in1997, inspired by its first President, Flavio Gómez Vargas, with Fabio Uribe, Juan PedroVelásquez, Diego Jaramillo, Myriam Mesa, Beatriz Sierra, Gonzalo Gómez, Stella Prada,José Ignacio Gómez and the late colleagues Iván Rendón, Jorge López, Jorge Mesa,Aníbal Zapata, Enrique Saldarriaga and Libardo Agudelo. Jorge Mesa, Juan PedroVelásquez and Diego Jaramillo have also presided the Association, José IgnacioGómez doing so currently (Figure 31). It has 80 standing members and 8 honorary, 19associate and 3 adjunct members. In 2002, on the occasion <strong>of</strong> the 25 th anniversary <strong>of</strong>its founding, special recognition was <strong>of</strong>fered to Pr<strong>of</strong>. Alonso Cortés and homage waspaid to the memory <strong>of</strong> José Posada, Carlos E. Tobón and Gonzalo Calle.Figure 31. J.Ignacio Gómezd) Chapter <strong>of</strong> the Atlantic. It was founded in Barranquilla in 1987 by Antonio Jaller,Álvaro Correa, Bernardo Huyke (Figure 32), Jairo Fuentes, Lesbia De León Ternera,Dubys Charris and Amín Ariza. In 1993 it affiliated dermatologists from other departments<strong>of</strong> the Colombian Caribbean. It has been characterized by its excellent organizationand its permanent struggle for the working and social welfare <strong>of</strong> itsmembers. It has carried out four successful Caribbean Symposia at the initiative <strong>of</strong> ÁlvaroCorrea, Esperanza Meléndez and Bernardo Huyke.e) Chapter <strong>of</strong> Nariño. Alfonso Rebolledo Muñoz (Figure 33) in 1977 created the <strong>Dermatology</strong>Service <strong>of</strong> the Departmental Hospital <strong>of</strong> Nariño in Pasto, <strong>of</strong>fering teaching in theundergraduate medical program <strong>of</strong> the University. In 1990, along with César GregorioArroyo Eraso, he created the Chapter, which brings together the region’s 10 dermatologistsand continues to be presided by its founder.f) Chapter <strong>of</strong> Bolívar.
