that <strong>Westminster</strong> remains a highly supportive environment in which to do business;assisting businesses in getting their voices heard; and to provide entrepreneurialresidents <strong>of</strong> all ages in our disadvantaged communities clear routes to selfemployment.Virtually all businesses demand from us a clean and safe environmentwithin which they can operate successfully. The council has long recognised this andthe drive for a cleaner and safer <strong>Westminster</strong> is delivered through major cleansingprogrammes and the Civic Watch (safety) and Civic Streets (public realm) initiatives.Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy (2005-<strong>2008</strong>)We plan to embed the intentions <strong>of</strong> Section 17 <strong>of</strong> the Crime and Disorder Act 1998into the business <strong>of</strong> all the Partners, which should deliver real change within existingresources as well as informing the re-design <strong>of</strong> services in the future. Over the nextthree years we plan to:• reduce key crimes against property and people in <strong>Westminster</strong> by 20%• make people in <strong>Westminster</strong> feel safeWe commit to delivering:• An overall reduction in violent crime especially making our pubs, clubs andstreets safer.• Targeted campaigns on the consequences <strong>of</strong> excessive drinking.• To reduce violence (ABH, GBH, Wounding, Common Assault) by 3% in 2005-06• To baseline alcohol related crime and disorder in <strong>Westminster</strong> during2005/06 and set annual targets to reduce for 2006/07 and 2007/08.• To promote best practice to licensed premises through an annual campaignand CivicWatch Business and Pubwatch.• Information on the effects <strong>of</strong> excessive alcohol consumption and signpostingto services to be available in every police station and accident andemergency department, as a result <strong>of</strong> identifying pr<strong>of</strong>i le <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fenders andvictims involved in alcohol related violence.• To deliver a minimum <strong>of</strong> a monthly intelligence briefi ng on violent crime<strong>of</strong>fenders to the CCTV Control centre to allow pro-active targeting <strong>of</strong> CCTV inproblem areas.• To undertake two seasonal communication campaigns per year targetedat non-residents, deterring <strong>of</strong>fenders, giving crime prevention advice topotential victims, and promoting safe drinking.• To identify two alcohol related or violent crime hotspots areas per year jointlybetween the Metropolitan Police, <strong>Westminster</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> and Primary CareTrust and to conduct a joint operation.106
