HOCKEY CLuB PERSONNELASSISTANT ATHLETIC THERAPISTGerry “Kurly” Kurylowich begins his sixth season with the Calgary Flames inthe role of Assistant Athletic Therapist. He works closely with Head AthleticTherapist Morris Boyer in the training room with player treatments andrehabilitation.Gerry is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of PhysicalEducation (1986). In 1993 he became a Certified Athletic Therapist from theCanadian Athletic Therapist Association. In 1997 he achieved Certificationas a Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist and in 2003 he received hisCertification in Swedish massage.GerryKURYLOWICHBefore joining the parent club in Calgary, Gerry was Head Athletic Therapistfor the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League for two seasons.Prior to Saint John he worked from 1997-2001 as Head Athletic Therapist withthe AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. His experience also includes ten years within theCanadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos (86-88), Ottawa RoughRiders (88-93) and the Hamilton Tigercats (94).Originally from 100 Mile House B.C., Gerry and his wife Rebecca makeCalgary their home with their two children Jaymz (15) and Catherine (13).EQUIPMENT MANAGERGus Thorson is in his 10th season as the Flames Equipment Managerfollowing a decorated career with the Canadian National Hockey Teamover 10 seasons. During that period, Gus attended six IIHF Men’s WorldChampionships capturing a Gold medal in 1997, and was the EquipmentManager for Team Canada at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano,Japan. His tenure with the national program began in 1989 and he held thepost of Head Equipment Manager during the final five years of his careerwith Hockey Canada.Gus has worked in the hockey business at various levels for over 20 years.Prior to joining the National Team, the 49-year old, worked as a trainer withthe University of Calgary and in the Western Hockey League with the VictoriaCougars, Moose Jaw Warriors and Calgary Wranglers.GusTHORSONAs the man in charge of all equipment and supplies for the Flames andtheir affiliated players in Quad Cities (AHL) and Las Vegas (ECHL), Thorsonwill outfit more than 60 players. During the season, his responsibilities willinclude skate sharpening, maintaining inventory, repairing equipment andcoordinating the transfer of the team’s equipment to other <strong>NHL</strong> cities.Although a native of Sackville, New Brunswick, Gus has called Calgary homesince 1970. Gus and his wife Fran have three children, sons Garrett and Craig, and daughter Amy.ATHLETIC THERAPIST/ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGERMark “Depo” DePasquale enters his third season with the Calgary Flamestraining staff with the start of the 2008-09 season. He was a member of theChicago Blackhawks organization since 1991. He provides 18 years of athletictherapy and equipment management experience to Calgary and works alongside Equipment Manager Gus Thorson.Mark’s initial role with the Blackhawks was as an Assistant EquipmentManager responsible for the day-day operations of player personnel involvingequipment for practices and games from 1989-1996. Mark moved to Arizonain 1996 to pursue a career as a professional golfer while working for theJeremy Roenick Foundation that raised money for multiple children’s charitiesin the greater Phoenix area. He moved back to Chicago and served as anEquipment Manager for the Chicago Wolves (IHL) for the 2000-01 season.MarkDEPASQUALEMark, 37, is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago with a Bachelor ofScience in Kinesiology. Mark, and his wife Kelly have twins Maddox and Miaand reside in Calgary.19 CALGARY FLAMES
