Ka<strong>the</strong>rine Senungetuk, a well know <strong>Alaska</strong>n artist and school nurse who lost her hard fought, long battle with cancer this past year. And Heidi Lubke, a vivacious, lively woman who was taken from us in a matter of seconds due to a MVA. They were both long-­‐time, well respected, much loved school nurses and are very much missed.


Review of Minutes: Jennifer Cottle/Melody Vahl Not completed -­‐ tabled for next year conference. Membership Report: Patty Barker/Nancy Edtl We have 93 <strong>ASNA</strong> members as of April 2011. Last year we had 104. Treasurer’s Report: Nancy Edtl <strong>ASNA</strong> has $20,000.00 in <strong>the</strong> bank (Nancy what was <strong>the</strong> #?) Director’s Report: Patricia Barker NASN-­‐ campaign “Voices of Meningitis”; this year’s conference is in D.C. Voices of Meningitis campaign that NASN is promoting. I encouraged people to go to NASN's website for information and out of all <strong>the</strong> people who go to <strong>the</strong> web site 3 will be selected and each will receive all expense paid trips to <strong>the</strong> 2012 NASN summer conference in San Francisco (up to $2000). <strong>Alaska</strong> <strong>School</strong> Nurse Consultant Report: Mary Bell SHNC Report for <strong>ASNA</strong> 4-­‐10-­‐11 SHNAC – will be meeting toge<strong>the</strong>r on April 18th; 3 sub-­‐committees · S/G – -­‐ Group working to provide guidelines for standardization of practice -­‐ First guidelines released in Feb – Measuring Height/Weight and Calculating BMI -­‐ Currently working on Infectious Dx Guidelines and Vision Screening Guidelines · A/E – -­‐ Group working on advocating and educating <strong>the</strong> public, school administrators, staff, parents, and o<strong>the</strong>rs on <strong>the</strong> role of <strong>the</strong> school nurse in impacting student achievement -­‐ <strong>School</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> Make a Difference PowerPoint, CD’s in <strong>ASNA</strong> conference packet and will be available for downloading off <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong> Nursing/<strong>School</strong> Health website soon -­‐ Next project -­‐ a school nursing services brochure to educate <strong>the</strong> public · N/SR – -­‐ This group is working on addressing school nursing issues; delegation is and has been problematic for school nurses and school districts. We are working specifically on continued education of <strong>the</strong> BON on school nursing practice and delegation and have assembled informational binders containing our research and recommendations. We plan to give each BON member a binder and have also provided <strong>the</strong> AaNA practice committee one as well in order to receive <strong>the</strong>ir feedback and potential support. -­‐ A collaborative (school nurses, parents, health care providers, DHHS/DEED, ADA) is being assembled on April 19th to work on diabetes specific delegation issues statewide; <strong>the</strong> binder information is being distributed for this group as well. Besides SHNAC – o<strong>the</strong>r committees/boards/meetings I have attended or currently attend where school nursing now has “a presence at <strong>the</strong> table”: · <strong>School</strong> Health Collaborative (DEED, DHSS, o<strong>the</strong>r state departments and agencies) · <strong>School</strong> Health & Wellness Institute Planning Committee · All <strong>Alaska</strong> Pediatric Partnership committees of <strong>School</strong> Health, Emergency Planning, and Health Services for Homeless Kids · <strong>School</strong> District BMI Collaboration with <strong>the</strong> Obesity Program · <strong>ASNA</strong> Board meetings and conference planning · ANAS Board · Emergency Preparedness Planning · <strong>Alaska</strong> Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Committee
