Christian Fuchs: Social Networking Sites and the Surveillance Societysurveillance knowledge in those cases where students have househusbands as fathers.Students with higher income have a higher probability to have high surveillanceknowledge. This can be explained by the fact that more money enables students toaccess better education facilities, more and therefore also more diverse informationsources and cultural activities. Coming from a larger city increases the probability thatone has more knowledge of surveillance. This can be explained by the difference incultural infrastructure between urban and rural areas. Rural areas tend to be culturallymore homogenous than urban areas, which normally are more culturally diverse. Alack of cultural infrastructure also means a lack of diversity of available worldviews, potential experiences, and viewpoints. Therefore it is more likely that people in largercities are confronted with viewpoints (either in personal conversations or in the mediaor in cultural institutions) that are not present in rural areas and that they have access tomore diverse information sources. The analysis shows overall that gender and class andthe urban/rural-differential are three factors that influence surveillance knowledge.Female:Correlation CoefficientSig.
