“Have you even made a flan, and squished it in your hand?” - Ween Casket Works # 9 ReaperMini.com / CavHq.comJust sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a frightful ship....JETSAM & FLOTSAM“Beach BlanketBingo!”Aloha, Reaper Readers! Welcome to Casket Works #9, our firstSummer Fun Spectacular. You’ll notice that we’ve included evenmore color for this issue, located right smack in the middle of themagazine. Who knows, maybe next issue everything will be in color, hmmm?Summer is here. For some folks, that’s great news. For some folks, that means finally getting outdoors, shaking off that cabin fever thatthey’ve had for months. For some folks, that means swimming pools, barbecues, and clambakes on the beach. And when I say “for somefolks”, I mean almost everybody who doesn’t live in Texas. (Or,anyone who doesn’t live in the southern or southwest U.S.)For us Texas folks, that means heat. And sweat. And toil. Did Imention the heat? Last July, the average daily temperature down herein the Dallas area was 129 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m not kidding.Check your almanac. And one day it actually rained cats and dogs.Really. Pugs, beagles, and Siamese cats just fell from the sky. Fourinches of cat in an hour. A record in Texas.“Well,” you’re wondering, “if it’s so dang hot there, why don’t youmove?”Puh-leeze, people, don’t ask such silly questions. If I were to move, then what would I have to complain about? And like Duke from GIJoe says, “Complaining is half the battle!”Or something like that. Pass the Chick-fil-A sweet tea, brotha, it’sgonna be a long summer!Reaper Miniatures is here for people who love gaming. By Robert E. Allen“Ahnuwujae luhdeumceah forix….”It had taken Abdul Jadaumi three years to find thewords that he now chanted, laboring over eachsyllable, perfecting the inflection and keeping steadyhis tone.“…Giseerax uhlmartii bugaahtai….”It had taken him four years to assemble the propermaterials for the circle in which he currently stood. The circle had been drawn painstakingly in the bloodof a freshly killed two-headed black lamb – all butunknown in his homeland, its acquisition had requiredhim to pay a princely sum for it to be delivered froma distant farm in the north. At every foot of the circle,a candle of royal bee’s jelly burned – each one thesummation of an entire bee hive’s efforts for a year -sending the sweet smell of honey wafting aroundAbdul’s head in wisps of tan smoke. The eldritchsymbols that surrounded him in the circle had beencarved in precious stones, each the size of his fist –one for memory, one for clarity, one for purpose, andtwo for protection. If his research was correct, eachof these stones would not survive the spell.“…Pylrueach vagosun jemmsunnee….”But the most precious thing that Abdul had acquired, the piece of forbidden lore that had driven him tothese lengths, his pursuit for over a dozen arduousyears, was the true name of an Abyssal Dragon.“…Backkmunnod, celhiechrod, vilckunspod…..”The true name would give him power over theAbyssal Dragon, Abdul knew. Knowing its true namewould force the dragon to do his bidding – becauseif the dragon did not, then Abdul could cause it pain. Not the pain that mortals knew – no, somethingaltogether more binding. The pain of a thousand yearsof torture. The pain of a hundred lances of fire beingcast into one’s eyes. The pain of complete agonywith no sweet release of death. The pain of a soulbeing torn asunder.“….Rylunthkopek hesifall neqeesth….”Abdul began to speak more quickly as he reachedthe climax of the summoning. He was concentratingupon the words of the spell, but at the same time hismind began to imagine the power that was soon tobe his to command. He licked his lips as he imaginedunleashing the dragon upon those treacherous dogsin Mufazi. How dare they cast him out, to spit uponthe good name of his family? What did they know ofhis genius? What did they know of his research? Itwas folly to ignore the teachings of the Skoli. Hadnot their mages nearly tamed all of Adon? Had theynot taught humility to the beings of the outer planes, forced even the mightiest of them to serve them?Well, soon enough Abdul would show them that hewas no fool. Soon enough, he would unleash a beingupon them all that would teach them to respect – no,to fear – Abdul.“….Verocithrax!”A thousand realities away, an ancient entity stirred atthe utterance of his name. His eyes flicked open, themalevolence burning like the fire of a black sun. Hecast his awareness into the distance for a moment –to see what impertinent being dared summon himfrom his millennium of torpor. What he saw instantlyenraged him – a fat, minute mortal was contemptuousenough to summon him, Verocithrax? And itimagined for a moment that it was powerful enoughto compel him to appear before it? The gall of thismortal provoked a response – and Verocithrax wouldpersonally bring one down upon it.Abdul stood waiting. He did not know exactly howlong it would take a being like an Abyssal Dragon toarrive; he had never contacted such an entity before.Another moment passed, and it began to occur toAbdul that perhaps he had mispronounced a piece ofthe spell. It was troubling to him; he knew enoughof the ancient Skoli tongue to know that

mispronouncing even simple words can radicallychange their meanings, and perhaps such a mistakeduring a spell could cause dire consequences. But in a startling second, every one of Abdul’s candleswent out. They never even flicked – one instant theyburned, the next they were snuffed out, their firesgone as if they had never existed at all. The hairupon Abdul’s neck bristled; and he felt the presenceof something…else. The dragon stood before him, larger than any beasthe had ever seen. In the sudden darkness, Abdulfound that he couldn’t make out the entire dragon atonce; as if its body was lost in the shadow – or,perhaps, was shadow itself.“Who dares awaken me?”Abdul was unsure if he heard the voice booming intohis ears, or simply shouting into his head directly. For a moment, he found that he could not speak.“I am Abdul Jadaumi, wizard, scholar, summoner of the mighty, binder of thedarkness, master of the ways, soon to be lordof all Hakir. It is I who have summoned you, greatVerocithrax!” Abdul spoke so softly that he barelyheard his own words.Verocithrax pulled himself back upon his backlegs, rising to a massive height. Abdul thoughtfor a second that the dragon was about to fly intothe sky, to travel to Mufazi and rend them all inhis name. He let out an excited laugh before herealized what was happening. The great dragon’s mouth gaped open, and blackshadowfire erupted out from it. It envelopedAbdul, his circle, his symbols of protection, everything, like a wave from the ocean. Abdulscreamed, blessed with his last moment ofexistence with the revelation that he had been socompletely wrong. Not only wrong about havingpower over a dragon, but wrong about themeaning of agony – for now he felt the searinganguish of having his soul torn away, a morsel forthe maw of Verocithrax.Verocithrax savored his first food in a millennia. While the soul of this mortal was but the barest ofsnacks, surely there were more to be found nearby.Resting for so long, it seemed, gave onequite an appetite….“And why have I been summoned, ‘wizard’?”“I have brought you here to serve my will!”If Verocithrax had been a dragon with any sense ofmirth, he might have laughed at the bumbling mortalthat stood before him. But he did not. It had been athousand years since any reckless mortal had utteredhis name, a thousand years since he had tread uponthe ground of this world. Now, he had to rectify theinsult of being summoned once again, and it did notamuse him.“I call to you, oh great dragon, to destroy the city ofMufazi! Raze it to the ground! In my name, let themknow devastation!”

Proper names are designated as Product Identity.Legends of Adonby Robert Allen & Damon Dorsey©Background:Falco Steelcross was born in 949 NA in easternVestonia, son to a priestess of Anarion and the leader of thetown guard. Falco was the youngest of four children, and hisbirth was heralded as a blessing from Anarion. His motherwas certainly past what is considered prime childbearing age,and her good health and survival of his birth were deemedfortuitous to his happy parents.Even as a young child, Falco was a rapid learner. Afteronly eight summers, he was learning swordplay from his fatherand the teachings and virtues of Anarion from his mother.Although it pained them to do so, his parents saw a glimpse ofFalco’s great destiny ahead, and sent him off to the GrandSanctuary of Anarion in Brennan, the capital city of Vestonia. They knew that they might never see him again.Within the Grand Sanctuary, Falco was among themost exceptional children in Vestonia, each gifted by theirfamilies to the service of Anarion. Yet even among them, Falcowas unparalleled. He excelled in the physicality of their combattraining. He hungered for the knowledge that the priests ofAnarion gave them. When Falco came of age, he and his classmates alltook the pledge to the Brotherhood of Anarion: to uphold law, promote knowledge, and vanquish evil, wherever it is found. The Brotherhood of Anarion granted him his first suit of armor, his first longsword, and a noble steed. Eager to see the world, which Anarion had created, Falco traveled across much ofAdon, teaching the word of Anarion, righting wrongs, andseeking out adventure.During his many years of travel, Falco and his bandof adventurers located a secret but well-defended temple toSangthurst, God of the Undead, deep beneath the WestbarrowHills. The temple, known as the Temple of Eternal Night, wasgrowing more powerful every day, and Falco feared that theservants of Sangthurst would soon amass a great army ofunliving and prey upon the surrounding area. The otheradventurers were divided – some of them wanted to seek help, while others voted to try and eradicate the temple themselves.Falco fell into the second camp – the works of Sangthurst werean affront to Anarion, and his impassioned argumentsconvinced the group to try and cripple the evil complex now.Through their bravery and Falco’s skills, they managed to best

the undead and their necromancer leaders, and destroy thetemple forever.Among the stolen riches of the temple, Falcodiscovered a treasure that drove him to his knees. Laying in abloodied scabbard was the holy sword Valamir, one of the relicsof the Brotherhood of Anarion, thought lost forever when itslast bearer, Jovus the Pious, disappeared over a hundred yearsago.Falco returned to the Grand Sanctuary, bearingValamir, to present to the priests there. He related his battleagainst the servants of Sangthurst, and the destruction of theirtemple. The priests, seeing the hand of Anarion at work, bestowed the keeping of Valamir upon Falco. In 985 NA, Falco took part in the defense ofBrennan against the hordes of orcs invading fromKargir and Anhur. He was asked to lead the forcesof the Grand Sanctuary in the battles against theorcish armies. Falco proved himself anexcellent leader, showing both a knack forbeing in the opportune place at the righttime, and, in keeping all of his chargesfrom dire harm. Whenever one of themwas about to be killed by an orc, Falcowould appear as if from nowhere, anddispatch the orc. The forces would laterremark that it was as if he was in ahundred places at once.During the final battle forBrennan, as the Knights of the Ivy Crownwere attacking the orcs from the rear,Falco saw the ruler of Vestonia, DukeRenner Blackshield, being overwhelmedby a large band of ogres. Although hefeared for the lives of his forces – whowere completely outclassed by theseasoned ogre warriors - the danger to theduke forced Falco to take drastic action. Heled his forces in a charge against the ogres, and beat them back from the Duke. Falcohimself carried the wounded duke back toBrennan, with the forces making a fightingwithdrawal around him. After the battle was over, with the orcs fallingback, Duke Blackshield showed his gratitude to Falco byknighting him, and naming him Supreme Commander-Militantof the armies of Vestonia. The responsibility is an awesomeone – the war in Anhur rages on, and the orcs are sure to returnto Vestonia in yet larger numbers when Anhur falls.Nevertheless, Lord Falco Steelcross strives to keep Vestoniasafe, in the name of Duke Blackshield and of Anarion.Roleplaying Notes:Lord Falco Steelcross is a tall, handsome man, with dark brown hair and blue eyes. He is massivelycharismatic, and welcoming to any who will fight in the defenseof Vestonia, and the retaking of Anhur. He tries to upliftthe hopes of the people of Vestonia, who fear the returnof the orcs, and even the possible death of their still injuredduke. He constantly strives to uphold the word of Anarion, and has been known to occasionally evangelize to thosewho listen.Although his duties preclude him fromundertaking the quest, he is currently very concernedabout the temple of Anarion that was overrun by the orcsin Riverford in Anhur. The temple possessed a large cacheof precious artifacts, and Lord Falco fears to think abouttheir desecration at the hands of the orcs. He would bevery thankful to any skilled adventurers who wouldundertake a mission to recover them for the GrandSanctuary of Anarion.Combat:Falco is a skilled swordsman, but not asubtle combatant. Whether his opponent isman, beast or demon, he will often sacrificeaccuracy for ferocity and shows little regardfor his own safety.Relic – ValamirValamir is one of 12 holy swordsknown collectively as the TwelveSwords of Sacrifice. The swordswere created centuries ago whenBellamyn, an angel in serviceto Anarion, sacrificed hisexistence in order to bindhis holy power into twelveenchanted blades craftedby the legendary ForgePriest Paramus.Originally wielded by agroup of paladins to turnback a demonic invasionin Ritterlich, only eight ofthe twelve blades arecurrently accounted for. Ofthose eight, only four are in the handsof the followers of Anarion. Of the remaining four, one is in the lair of the red dragon T’Raukzul, two areknown to be broken, and one was last seen in the palaceof the recently deposed shah of Jalahandra.Upon first inspection, Valamir appears to be afinely crafted blade made of fragile ivory, but the blade isin fact constructed of an unknown and incredibly strongmaterial. The blade is delicately decorated with filigreebut bears no runes. The hilt is made of white gold and isfeatureless save for the holy name of Anarion written infine Celestial script. When wielded by a paladin ofAnarion the white blade seems to pulse with a goldenlight.ReaperMini.com / CavHq.com Casket Works # 9 Bleh.

Confidential TransmissionFrom: Kim Ji Han [Central IntelligenceBureau]To: Prefect Amadi [UFFCHQ: ThreatAssessment Group]Subject: Your request for an updatePrefect Amadi, I received yourcommuniqué regarding the engagement in theAlgoab system. While most of our first-handinformation is outdated, we do have severalintercepted communications that involve thecolonists. The document that best summarizesthe current events is an intercepted Malvernistransmission we translated yesterday. I alsoincluded excerpts from the Terran edition ofthe Unabridged Syde’s Guide to the Galaxy, and a quick rundown of the Order of Battlefor the involved forces, and a map. If it turnsout that TAG needs more in-depth informationabout Uakhet than what is in the Syde’s Guide,I will need a courier to come to CIBheadquarters in person for security reasons.Document A: Communications Interceptfrom Hydra (65) to Capella (17)Inquisitor Zhox,As requested, I have compiled a reportof the recent conflict in the Algoab (107) starsystem between the Adonese UCOR VolenArcand a cult on the planet Uakhet. I wish to commendour Adonese and Terran Dark Brotherhood [Ouragents near Hydra have been alerted. – Ji Han] forthe speed with which they were able to acquire thedata. They are the primary reason I am able to giveyou such a complete overview of the situation. I willbreak my report into three primary sections: history, political ramifications, and personalities. As we donot concern ourselves with battlefield doctrine, Iincluded no summary of the engagement.HistoryThe origins of the Uakhet-based cult callingthemselves the Children of Khepera can be directlytraced to one Adonese aristocrat – Vaul Branne ofTelluria. There is no available information on Brannebefore his graduation from a Tellurian highereducation institution in 2213. We are certain that as ayouth he became involved in the “Egypto-Adonese”movement that originated in Breonne on Adon in theearly 2200s. We speculate the movement began withacademic Adonese youths, who adopted fashion andartistic elements from the newly discovered Earther[In such a high level communication, the use of aderogatory slur suggests anti-Terran sentiment is highwithin the Malvernis Empire – Ji Han] culture’shistory. In 2215, Branne takes his inheritance andinvests in VolenArc Mining Corp, which providedenough capital to purchase a UCOR charter. Branneeventually becomes a major figure in the UCOR Laterthe same year he provides inside information

egarding newly discovered heavy mineral depositsin the Algoab (107) system (how is unknown). Wesuspect he had contacts due to his aristocratic lineage. The Brotherhood uncovered a photograph of Branne’soffice in The VolenArc UCOR’s main office in 2219,and it is heavily decorated with Terran Egyptianimagery showing his continuing fascination. At some point in the 2220s, Branne relocateshimself to Algoab II, the UCOR’s primary producingcolony world and names it Uakhet. During theImperial War, Terran legions use the Algoab systemas a relay point and garrison it with several turma onthe planet. Branne, claiming neutrality after the war, maneuvers large quantities of surplus equipment tomake its way into the Uakhet Planetary DefenseForce. The VolenArc UCOR downsizes and focusesmost of its operations on Algoab. During the BoreasAccord war, patriotism further depletes the UCORsAdonese staff. Branne hires heavily from Earth wherehe apparently has made contacts with the districtgovernment of the Egyptian region, his youthfulstatement of rebelliousness again showing its holdon his life. Branne is made the Chief ExecutiveOfficer in 2232 of a struggling UCOR, we suspect itis at this point he begins stealing from his owncompany to fund his mania.During the 2230s Branne joins an alien cultbased around the belief that the Terran- Egyptiancivilization was founded by an unknown alien race. The concept is quite old in Terran culture; they seemto have many strange cults and religious beliefs thatsuggest that they would be more open to Khardullis. It is unfortunate for their souls that the reports fromour Terran proselyting efforts are that they reject hisword. [I deleted a prayer to Khardullis he inserts atthis point – Ji Han]There is a 25 year information void from 2230until 2254. Algoab was occupied by Terran turmasduring the Galaxy War. We received the bulk of ourimages of the Uakhet surface and primary colony citiesfrom these Terran troops. The mining and residencefacilities were heavily altered using local stone toresemble historical Egypt. The heresies of the cult havefully altered Branne; to the Terran military commandershe is Akhenka I of the 34 th Dynasty and Pharoah [Hesaid “Divine Monarch” but I took the liberty ofusing our own word for it – Ji Han] of Uakhet. The Terrans use the words “crazy” and “insane”often to describe the Adonese Pharoah of Uakhetbut since he is not aggressive, they worked withthe local citizenry (which is at this point heavilyinterbred Adonese-Terran) until the end of theGalaxy War. Once again, the Terran governmentsold war-surplus to the locals who call themselvesthe “Aegyptonese.”In 2269, Akhenka I dies and his halfbreedson Atenmest I becomes Pharoah. Laterthat year Atenmest I declared Uakhet asovereign star system and nationalized all theUCOR equipment and holdings. The VolenArcUCOR board executives responded by aunanimous vote toremove the localmanagement,Atenmest, anddeclareUakhet andall UCORproperty onthe worldas stolen.Mercenarieswere then hiredto recover theUCOR’s property. As theprimary miningresource of TheVolenArc UCOR, theboard executives couldnot unleash large-scalemilitary operations againstthe locals. Officially, thecolony is the property ofThe VolenArc UCOR, somercenaries had to be

improve their image as a champion of the weak. I amcertain that Spiro will negotiate his own mining andexport conditions once finished.Ritterlich – Unknown. The security of thePegasi (47) system is their primary concern and ifconflicts in Algoab degenerate, brigade groups maytravel there to restore the peace alongside NADO units.Rach – It is unlikely the Rach will be involvedin any role other than as mercenaries for hire. However, the Templars might avail upon the Karak for militaryaid. If the Rach step in, then Ritterlich involvement iscertain. Our interest in the area – The cult is anabomination. They are filthy, half-bred religiousfanatics devoted to unknown alien gods that must bebrought to Khardullis or purged. However, thoughnothing would please me more that to attack directly, Imust counsel to avoid any overt involvement since itwould spark precisely the galactic incident that all sideswish to avoid. Enlisting agents from the DarkBrotherhood would perhaps be the best way to covertlyact in the system. [We have dispatched undercoveragents to Uakhet, they’ll keep their eyes open forMalvernis influence. – Ji Han]used.Political RamificationsTerran – The Terran government isinterested in the star system but have made noovert move to support or destroy the revolt.Politically it would bring the AEC and NADOdirectly into the situation, which would explodethe situation into a galactic incident. We cansafely assume that the UFF will continue tosupply the Pharoah with surplus equipmentthrough their puppet UCORs.AEC/NADO – The UCOR has yet totake their case to the AEC. It is certain that theAdonese will step in and restore commercialnormalcy. It is unlikely the local population’sattempt at sovereignty will be successful oncethe AEC becomes involved.Templars – They are a rogue element. It is likely that they will launch a Crusade todefend the “poor unfortunates” of Uakhet.Politically it would aid their attempts atreconciliation with the Terran government andPersonalitiesAtenmest I, Self proclaimed Pharaoh of the34 th Dynasty - He is the half-breed religious andpolitical leader of the colony with excellent commercialacumen and political skill. We can be certain he willmanipulate the situation on Uakhet to result, eventually,in a sovereign and independent system.Katsiu, Warrior Queen of Uakhet and wifeof Pharoah – Adonese married to Atenmest I. She isa serious threat due to her former career as a mercenarywith the Black Cobras. She has the most varied militaryexperience on the planet and is the likely strategiccommander of the Defense Force. She is also a devotedmember of the cult.Arihems, High Commander of the AnubisGuards – The half-breed in direct command of theplanet’s only military unit.Valon Ubarnne, Chief Executive of TheVolenArc UCOR – The UCOR will do anything torestore smooth operations on the planet and keepexclusive rights to all exports.By the Black Throne,Colonel Xandis Kurl

Journal of Recognition PreviewThe KDMMastodon hybridartillery, superheavyCAV is one ofthe newest designsto stride the battlefields today. Modern combatdynamics call for maximum flexibility, and theengineers at KDM began work on the concept nearthe end of the Galaxy War. Three years after hostilitiesceased the Mastodon rolled off production lines in2266. The public debut on the planet Haurin in theLesath (51) system awed generals from nearly everysignificant power in the Galaxy. KDM marketingexecutives hardly had to highlight the CAV’sdistinctive and fearsome profile or its uniquecapabilities. The massive Chimera 1 dual-purposeartillery system and months of psychological researchto produce the exterior have resulted in a CAV thatprojects a daunting battlefield presence.Production Notes:The Mastodon is the brainchild of StafonEnschwald, regarded only until recently as the “madscientist of R&D” by his colleagues at KDM. In 2264,the Rhino made its devastating entry into the modernbattlefield as the first of the “Super-Heavies.” Withinmonths Borsig-Spline’s equally gruesome Ogre blastedits way into service. KDM’s Research andDevelopment elite had been challenged to find theperfect follow-up to the Rhino from the moment it hadbegun development. What they sought was somethingso innovative that it would maintain KDM’s edge inthe lucrative heavy CAV market. Enschwald answeredthis challenge with his customarily maverick thinking:“To defeat the implacable enemy,” Enschwaldreasoned, “why hit him head-on where he expects it?Hit him from above, behind, and the sides all at once.Fear shall weaken the crews of the mightiest CAVs.”Thus, while his colleagues labored to developweapons that could out-range or out-punch the MaximOne Rotary Gauss Cannon, Enschwald developed aCAV chassis able to mount a dual-purpose heavy gun.For primary armament, Enschwald’s teamoriginally considered using the Vogel 7 field artillerygun. However, only a few months before the prototypechassis for the Mastodon was to be assembled, a KDMWeapon Engineering team field-tested the dualpurposeChimera artillery system. Though possessedof only half the range of the Vogel 7, the Chimeraboasted exactly the kind of versatility Enschwald waslooking for. The Mastodon prototype was altered toaccommodate the new main gun and dual ammunitionbays. Enschwald pronounced the design ready fortrials.Live fire testing at the Haurin R&D facilitydiscovered a weakness in the Mastodon’s leg structure. The already-taxed Dyna-Trans Series TS-200 BellarJoints in the hips, knees, and ankles of the CAVsuffered total failures when the Chimera system wasfired while on the move. After just two firings the CAVwas immobilized on the testing grounds with grindingjoints. It took Enschwald’s team several months towork out the problem, but in the latter half of 2265 thedouble strength TS-200EX Bellar Joint system wascompleted. The reworked Mastodon is a lumberingmonstrosity, but it can nevertheless now fire a volleyfrom its main gun while on the move with no fear ofleg failure. The Mastodon boasts a thick hide to protect iton the battlefield. Shield 1D Series 3 armor girds thereinforced KDM MTD Series I chassis. This level ofprotection is on par with KDM super-heavy designphilosophy, but once ammunition is added there is littleroom for a robust power system. The older Type 4Grunsweld breeder tested during the Rhino’sdevelopment cycle fit the bill. The Type 4 is morefragile than the Rhino’s Type 5 but is currently theonly breeder that will fit in the cramped internalconstruction of the Mastodon. Until the CAV has seenmore combat it is unlikely a new breeder will roll outfrom KDM in the near future.Despite the Mastodon’s shortcomings, thecompleted prototype was sent to Gabe Vandoer ofKDM marketing. Vandoer invited generals from allmajor powers to Lesath (51) for a demonstration of “arevolutionary dual purpose artillery delivery systemfrom KDM.” On the mock battlefield, the Mastodondemolished five drone CAVs in just under two minutes.A consummate showman, Vandoer saw to it that oneof the UCOR’s best test CAV crews took charge of the

Mastodon for the demonstration and that the unmanneddrones were tuned to operate as wild aggressors. Thedemonstration of the Mastodon’s capabilities left theassorted military commanders awestruck. Withinweeks after the generals returned to their homesystems, orders for the new CAV and secondaryrequests for spare Chimera cannon systems surged in.On the Battlefield:KDM has already produced approximately3,800 Mastodons but the CAV has seen only skirmishcombat. AEC and Ritterlich commanders, reluctantto risk bringing these costly, slow-moving support unitsclose to the action, have relegated them to defensiveduties. This strategy has proven surprisingly effectivein an unexpected way. The size and implied power ofthe Chimera on the Mastodon’s hulking silhouetteintimidate all but the most seasoned veterans. Thispsychological advantage alone seems to have been adecisive factor in a recently reported conflict. On Ja’wic, an arid world in the 3SCA (66)system, pirate raiders struck a Malvernis supply post. The intent seems to have been to feint the local militaryforces away from the real prize, an aerospace fuelingstation some seventy kilometers away. Instead ofresponding to the feint, the Malvernis commanderposted a detachment of two brand-new Mastodons, with support from aTerran Market Designation: MastodonManufacturer: KDMType: Combat Assault VehicleMission: Special (Mobile Artillery)Chassis Number Series: KDM MTD-004 to KDM MTD-3828Production Start: 2266; 3,824 produced to dateCrew: 2Weight: 100 tonsHeight: 33 feetArmor: Shield 1D-3Breeder: Grunsweld Type 4ECM System: CMC Series 18Power Cell: Internal Cell Type 4Repair System: Pass Plus ITarget System: Enihr Lock 2z1x Chimera Dual-Purpose Artillery Systempair of Assassins, to the supply post’s defense. The relatively inexperienced Mastodon crewsfired several IDF volleys from their Chimerasas the eight bandit CAVs closed. The pirateadvance was thrown off long enough for theAssassins to maneuver behind the enemyunits. When the Mastodon crews aidedtheir comrades in dispatching three pirateCAVs – including the apparent leader – theremaining bandits withdrew in short order.Recently the Terran Forces and theRach Empire have received their initialpurchases of the design. KDM is certainthat hard battlefield data will soon beforthcoming.

WAR:We caught up with the bad boy of the Reaper world himself,War, at his upscale condominium in Beverly Hills. Fire away!CW: Reaper recently cancelled 2003, which was a miniature of you ridinga lion into battle. Any comments?War: Yeah, I heard they did that. Gimme a(expletive deleted) break!CW: Speaking of out of the game, rumor has it that the other Reapers,Plague, Famine and Pestilence are planning on replacing you with theReaper Despair. Care to comment on this?War: Right, right, the fifth Reaper rumors. I mean I have nothing againstDespair. He’s ok in a stand up fight ‘n all, but he lacks any style or grace.I mean, like, I’m the (expletive deleted) king of death here. (cackles andtakes a long puff on his cigar) Once after a large battle, he like stood on theedge of a cliff surveying the carnage and didn’t do a damn thing. I understand that you were supposed tobe part of that universe, but when the book published there was no mentionof you.ANOTHER @#%&INGINTERVIEWWar: (Unnatural piercing laugh) Where do I start?! That(expletive deleted) Ed Pugh is a great bunch of (expletive deleted)guys. Is it true thatyou requested to be in a separate photo from Vanessa of the Blade(2304) in CW #8?War: (dry chuckle) Yeah, she wouldn’t shut up. She was a biggernag than Dragoth ever thought of being. We have a great page inCW #8. Not that the two guys I’m with now are greatconversationalists, but at least I get some peace. Now Tobias isflaming (expletive deleted) mad at me! I mean he’s got Vanessaon one side and that loud-mouthed dwarf Thorondil on the otherside of him. The biggest improvement in CW #8 over CW #7 wasgetting rid of the wyvern Blacksting and Dreyfus’s horse. I gottatell you that the (expletive deleted) smell back in CW #7 got pretty(expletive deleted) intense. St Tarkus and Batna solved the problemby getting them voted off the page.CW: Life, or in your case death, at the top does have itsdisadvantages. Well it’s time I wrap this up, one last question Ihave is what do you have in your pockets?War: (howls) My (expletive deleted) pockets? Let’s see. Two oldRoman coins, a recipe for honey cakes I got from Cerberus and adat-chip with Dana Murphy’s home number, which reminds meas to why I requested you for the interview. I need the web addresswhere you found those pics of her. (screeching whoop) I mean(expletive deleted) shoot-out city intense she is. Was her butt ...CW: Excuse me, Mr. Reaper War, but I‘m not getting fired again.War: (howls) (expletive deleted) Whatever mate.CW: Any last words for our readers?War: Stomp out the ones that declare they’re alive; they probablyare! Pestilence and famine to everyone, ciao.Casket Works # 9 ReaperMini.com / CavHq.com The more you disapprove, the more fun it is for me.“How ‘bout with your death”“I’m the #&%$# king of death”“She was a bigger nag thanDragoth ever thought of being”“Pestilence and Famine toeveryone, ciao”

Posterior EndWelcome to OurFantasy World,eh?Students from F.D. Roosevelt P.S. inLondon, Ontario display the culmination of theirfantasy game project in English class. Joe Sheik, the vice-principal of the school and avid gamer, decided to use Reaper Miniatures to ignite thestudents’ imaginations. Reaper Miniaturesprovided the figurines for the students to use torepresent their heroes, and the students did ameticulous search of Reaper’s website andpainted their choices with care and precision. The female students were especiallyappreciative of the wide variety of femalefigures available in the Reaper line. Thestudents produced fantasy short stories toinclude their figures. Each student developedtheir own country with myths, legends, andgeography centered on their character. Whatever.Anyhow, look for CW #10 in September 2002.Lotsa cool stuff coming up, like the T-Rex, Lair ofthe Giant, and Deathsleet the Dragon boxed sets, andso much more. You couldn’t swing a bag of cats andnot hit new miniatures next issue!Ciao!Ron
