VOL. 61 July 2012 Number 7General Meeting~ July 18 th~ Work Bee ~ July 22 nd ~

PRESIDENT’S COLUMNWow, can you believe it's already July. Wheredoes the time go? It seems like the childrenwere just getting back to school from summervacation. The summer means boating, andbarbecues. Speaking of BBQ’s I hope you allgot your tickets for theBeef Cookout on July 21.We were sure busyaround the club this monthwith the National PatrolRifle Competition and carcruises. The Rendezvousand Chamber of CommerceMusic event added tospotlight the club, you could barely find a placeto park.We will be having an ATV raffle, beginningthis month. We are raffling off a PolarisSportsman 500 HO. Tickets are only $10 each, and only 1,000 will be sold. In the past, this hasbeen very successful for the club. Our walleye outing was disappointing due tothe weather. The wind just would not quitblowing so no, fish. I would like to get togethera group later in the season, possibly for perchfishing, or maybe a salmon fishing trip on LakeMichigan. Also this month Multi-Lakes will be hostingDetroit Bike Week the 26th through 29th.While we only rent the grounds for this event, itcertainly should showcase our club andhopefully bring in new prospective members. Itwill be a fun time for all either way.MULTI-LAKER DEADLINEDeadline for articles in the August 2012 Multi-Laker Magazineis Wednesday, July 18 th , 2012.NOTE: All copy must be electronically submitted and approved by the Editor.THE MULTI-LAKER(USPS) 350-060Published Monthly by theMulti-Lakes Conservation AssociationOffice Fax – (248) 363-8092Club Manager – Barry AndersonOffice Manager – Terry MartinCLUBHOUSE – (248) 363-9109Skeet, Trap & Sporting Clays Building – (248) 363-8811Indoor Range House – (248) 360-3965Member Michigan United Conservation ClubsMichigan Coalition for Responsible Gun OwnersPeriodicals Postage Paid at Walled Lake, MI 48390www.multilakes.comSubscription Rates:Members - $12.00 of the members Annual Dues is paidas a year’s subscription to The Multi-LakerNon-members - $15.00 per year payable in advance.2012 OFFICERSPRESIDENT………………...…... .… SAM MULLINS, (248) 766-2238VICE-PRESIDENT………..….…MICHAEL BEATTIE, (810) 533-3088TREASURER………………...…......….DAVE FISHER, (248) 668-0371RECORDING SECRETARY….RICHARD JOHNSON, (313) 278-7841MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY….........MARK GEIGER, (248) 681-67322012 BOARD OF DIRECTORSDave Chappel`12 .….…… ……………………....……...(248) 363-1398Marshall Maybrier `12…….………………….….………(248) 867-5069Micky McCanham `12………… Vice-Chairman ………(248) 366-6819Matt Philippart`13 ….……….… Chairman …….………(313) 443-4777Terry Smart `13…………………………….....….………(586) 980-6013Mark Torigian`13…………………………………...……(734) 679-9874Rich Carlson `14…………………………………....……(248) 210-3623Jon Lash `14…………………...………………....………(248) 363-7474Marty Zaremba `14...…………………………….…...….(248) 476-3983Russ DeVriendt – Past President …………….…….……(248) xxx-xxxxSee you around the club,~ SamPOSTMASTER: send address changes and notices of undeliveredcopies on form 3579 to:MULTI-LAKES CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION3860 Newton RoadCommerce Twp, MI 483822 The Multi-Laker is monthly publication of Multi-Lakes Conservation Association – Dave Leonard, Editor, D_Leonard@multilakes.com

~ Letters ~Terry A. SmartMember #407Board Member 2011-2013May 9, 2012Dear; Matt PhilippartChairman of the BoardMulti-Lakes Conservation Assn.I am notifying the Multi-Lakes Board ofDirectors and the Membership that as of May 9,2012. I am resigning my position as a Multi-LakesBoard Member. Along with my resignation fromthis Board of Directors, I also will be steppingdown from my current Chairmanships and Socialevents.I would like to thank the Membership forthe opportunity to serve them on this Board aswell, for their support. The experience that I haveencountered during my position on this Boardhas been very educating and challenging from aManagement, Business, and Personal level. The main reason for me to serve on thisBoard of Directors was to be part of creating andinstituting positive change. This change was tocreate to mutual benefits and long term successfor the Members and future Members of Multi-Lakes. However as we all know there has beenchange for the good during my time served andThank You' all! But issues and' behaviors stillpersist amongst Multi-Lakes overall and' continueto hinder its future success. The issues andbehaviors that continue to be over looked andaccepted are of concern and should be by all. This activity goes against my very reason tocontinue to serve as a Multi-Lakes BoardMember. The success for Multi-Lakes will bechallenging without positive change and positivebehavior. It is critical for the success of Multi-Lakes, that this Board of Directors, Officers,Management, and. Members promote positivebehavior, except change and work as one Team.My continued desire and support forMulti-Lakes to be 'successful overall will remain.Sincerely,Terry A. Cool Hand Carl248-318-3463 or 1873cowboy45@sbcglobal.netI came across this article in the March 1975 Multi-Laker, and feltthat it's just as relevant now, in our 70th year, as it was then.Multi-Lakes means different things to different people, and whileI'm sure we all have the best interests of the club at heart, everyone has to pull together to make it work.Ten Ways to Wreck an Organization:1. Don’t come to the meetings.2. If you do come, come late.3. If the weather does not suit you, don’t think of coming.4. If you attend a meeting. find fault with the officers and othermembers.5. Never accept an office, as it is easier to criticize than do things.6. Feel hurt if you are not appointed on a committee, but if youare, do not attend committee meetings.7. If asked by the chair to give your opinion on some matter, tellhim you have nothing to say. After the meeting, tell everyonehow things should be done.8. Do nothing more than is absolutely necessary, but whenmembers roll up their sleeves and willingly and unselfishly usetheir ability to help the organization, say that the unit is run by aclique.9. Hold back your dues as long as possible, or don’t pay them atall.10. Don’t bother about getting new members let someone elsedo it.~ Jan Podkul #64Website / Historian 5
