which will take at least a decade to conclude. Among the potential benefits of thisproject are an increased power output per well, development of an environmentallybenign energy source beneath currently producing geothermal fields, and an extendedlifetime of the exploited geothermal reservoirs.A Forum on Alternative FuelsAt the beginning of 2004, the government initiated a project named A Forum onAlternative Fuels, based at the National Energy Authority. The purpose of the forumis to encourage and advance more efficient energy use in areas where fossil fuels arecurrently being used, and increase the use of environmentally friendly energy carrierswhere possible. The forum is expected to coordinate the government’s aims andresponses in this category. Furthermore, delivering information, both to the governmentand the public, is an important function of the forum.A panel made up of representatives from six ministries head the forum. The ministriesinvolved are: Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry for ForeignAffairs, Ministry of Communications, Ministry for the Environment and Ministry ofFisheries.
