The meetings werehosted by UNHCR and attended by a number of UN agencies,NGOs, donors and academics. The <strong>Network</strong> is the result of ashared commitment to improve knowledge, stimulate learningand provide vital support and encouragement to food andnutrition workers involved in emergencies. The ENN officiallybegan operations in November 1996 and has widespreadsupport from UN agencies, NGOs, and donor governments.The network aims to improve emergency food and nutritionprogramme effectiveness by:• providing a forum for the exchange of field levelexperiences• strengthening humanitarian agency institutionalmemory• keeping field staff up to date with current research andevaluation findings• helping to identify subjects in the emergency food andnutrition sector which need more research.The main output of the ENN is a tri-annual publication,<strong>Field</strong> <strong>Exchange</strong>, which is devoted primarily to publishing fieldlevel articles and current research and evaluation findingsrelevant to the emergency food and nutrition sector.The main target audience of the publication are food andnutrition workers involved in emergencies and thoseresearching this area.
