PNEUMATIC RADIAL PISTON MOTOREasyDrive4Product features• Start / stop and shift in direction of rotationunder full load possible• Maximum torque from starting available• Overload protected• Maintenance free• Low noise level• Minimised air consumption at high performance• Ex certification compliant to RL94/9/EG (optional)• IP67 or IP68 and stainless steel housing (optional)Operation PrincipleThe applied radial piston principle works without crankshaftor pistonrods. The pistons are arranged in a star pattern and glide alongthe innercurved surface of the housing. The compressedair is being supplied from the center through the fixed pistoncontrol shaft via the floating piston control ring to theindividual pistons. This ensures automatic activation of thepistons. The piston control ring is connected to the pistoncage in a floating arrangement, which is based on doublebearings on the piston control shaft. During rotation the airto the pistons will alternate between supply and exhaust.Immediate reverse rotation can be activated through directionalchange of the air supply.Three of the seven pistons are always actively engaged togenerate rotation and torque of the air motor. The pistonsnear the highest elevation of the curve will exhaust andforced to the lowest point of the curve. This represents thecycle of a simple cylinder.Piston control ringPiston control shaftPiston cage discDrive pistonPiston guide rollerThe rollers of the cylinders are fabricatedof high stress plastic material and run ondouble bearings. This allows for low frictionwith minimal noise and high lifeexpectancy. Compared to standardair motors these pneumatic motorsmodel EasyDrive have their highesttorque rating at low revolutions andminimal air consumption.Curved piston glideAll designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC RADIAL PISTON MOTORPerformance Data6Maximum performance, minimum consumption!Unlike conventional compressed air motors, the EasyDrivealready generates its maximum torque during start with minimumair consumption. As the speed increases, the torquePerformancedecreases while the airconsumption increasesRotation speed at the same time. Thismax.Torquemeans that the EasyDrive maximizes output while minimizingpower consumption, which translates to a considerableadvantage in terms of energy consumption.Remark:Regarding the rpm-range, the PMO 7200 is deviant to all othermodels and is construed for 30-140 rpm (without gear).+ -Performance (Nm)PMO 720020 Nm28 Nm48 Nm64 Nmmax. 14.500l/hmax. 5.500l/hmax. 26.000l/hmax. 28.000l/hPMO 36004 Nm10 Nm12 Nm20 Nm32 Nmmax. 5.500l/hmax. 16.500l/hmax. 14.000l/hmax. 27.000l/hmax. 23.000l/hPMO 18002 Nm6 Nm8 Nm12 Nm16 Nmmax. 3.200l/hmax. 8.000l/hmax. 13.000l/hmax. 16.500l/hmax. 13.000l/hl/hPMO 09003 Nm4 Nm5 Nm7 Nm8 Nmmax. 3.500l/hmax. 6.300l/hmax. 8.500l/hmax. 11.000l/hmax. 11.000l/hPMO 04502 Nm3 Nm4 Nmmax. 1.500l/hmax. 2.500l/hmax. 4.300l/hmax. 4.400l/hmax. 6.000l/hTorque at 6 bar- Rotation speed (rpm)+Torque in Nm6560555045403530252015105PMO 7200PMO 3600PMO 1800PMO 0900PMO 0450030 40 60 80 100 120 140 160 180 200 220 240 260 280 300rpmWatt3753503253002752502252001751501251007550250rpmPMO 7200PMO 3600PMO 1800PMO 0900PMO 0450All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC VANE MOTOR10MODEC Vane AirMotorProduct characteristics• Power range from 40 to 3000 W• Both directions possible (right turn, left turn, reversible)• Compact design• Long life expectancy• Easy maintenance• Special adaptations on requestDescriptionMODEC Air Motors have been used for 20 years as analternative to traditional electrical motors in many applicationswhere specific constraints are apparent such as in thechemical, petrochemical and automotive industries. The motors are designed to be modular construction, thisallows all standard motors to be assembled and supplied tocustomers within shortened lead times, whilst also providingthe possibility of special output shaft and mounting flangesconfigured to suit the direct replacement of other manufacturesunits without the need to re-engineer the motor interface. The modular construction continues throughout the motorwith the design of planetary reduction gear units allowing forspeeds ranging from 95rpm to 5117rpm at maximum poweron the latest MT30 3kW motor and stall torques of up to630Nm.Standard options include right angled head attachmentson the 50W to 1.7kW ranges negating the need to mount aseparate gear box to redirect the output shaft.Piloting of speed and torqueThere are two main ways to pilot MODEC Air Motors: flowor pressure regulation. When it is desired to maintain highstarting torque and at the same time reduce speed, the flowreduction at intake point is a solution (Impacting more thespeed than the torque). When the control of the stall torque is more important thanstarting torque, we will use a pressure control system onintake cable of the air motor (Impacting more the torquethan the speed).1. Filter2. Pressure regulator3. Lubricating system4. Flow control system5. Distributor 3/26. Non reversible motorMounting the air motorsMounting the air motor is very flexible. Flange are availableto ease the different mounting.Assembly of air motor using angle headAngle heads are suitable for MR07, MR10, and MR20. Theybring a mounting solution where the space is very limitedand does not allow the use of classical MODEC Air Motors. All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC VANE MOTORSelection methodology for MODEC Air MotorsFor each planetary geared air motor MODEC, the curves have been measured on real conditions. Power values arethose measured on air motor shaft. Torque, rotary speed and power are all linked; with air consumption they are the maincharacteritics input in an air motor selection.Determination of the conditions of use of the air motor11Rotary Speed (RPM)Torque at nominal rotary speed (Nm)Air pressure used (4,5,6 bars)Determination of requested power at air motor shaftPower (W) = Torque (Nm) x Rotary speed (rpm) / 9,55(Example : 150 Nm x 50 rpm / 9,55 = 785W)Selection table per power ranges (MT05, MT07, MT10, MT20, MT30, MR07, MR10, MR20)(Example: with a 785W motor, MT10 or MR10 will be suitable)RangesMT05 / MT07 /MR07MT10 / MR10 MT20 / MR20 MT304 bars 50W 450W 1200W5 bars 110W 650W 1500W6 bars 150W 800W 1700W 3000WAir motors have a wide working range. So, frequently more than one air motor will be suitable according to the firstselection step. Three main choice criterias will help you to finalize you air motor selection: enegetic efficiency, a powerreserve, maximum stall torque.1. Energy EfficiencyIt is more efficient to use an air motor at the rotary speed corresponding to the maximum power. We will select the airmotor for which the speed at maximum power is closest to the actual speed in the application.Torque (Nm)300250200150100MT10-0047 rpm20050100000 4 8 12 16 20 24 29 32 37 41 45 49 53 57 61 65 69 73 77 81 85 89 93 97 103 Speed (rpm)Power and maximum efficiency Working pointPower (W)1000900800700600500400300In this example, the air motor for whichthe speed at maximum power is theclosest to the working point expectedis the MT10RT0047 (based on thepower efficiency criteria). But according to the usage of the airmotor, more selection creteria must betaken into account. All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC VANE MOTOR122. A power reserveIf we want to maintain constant speed in case of torque increase, it is necessary to consider a power reserve. This isobtained by choosing an air motor with speed at working point, higher than the speed at maximum power (When speed isnot stable, it may be necessary to consider limiting torque system in order not to reach maximum torque allowed on the airmotor shaft).MT10-0056 rpmTorque (Nm)Power (W)250100090020080070015060050010040030050200100000 5 10 14 19 24 29 34 39 44 49 53 58 63 68 73 78 83 88 92 97 102107 112 117 124 Speed (rpm)Power and maximum efficiency Working pointSpeed at working point is lower or equalto the speed at maximum power. In thatcase, there is no power reserve.MT10-0039 rpmTorque (Nm)Power (W)350300100090080025020070060050015010040030020050010000 3 7 10 14 17 20 24 27 31 34 37 41 44 47 51 54 58 61 64 68 71 74 78 81 86 Speed (rpm)Power and maximum efficiency Working pointSpeed at working point is higher thanspeed at maximum power. If torqueincreases, the power of air motor willalso increase. This will help to maintaina constant rotary speed.3. Maximum stall torqueFor specific application, it is necessary to guarantee precise stall torque. For example, when using an air motor for safedoors operating system (or a screwing system), maximum torque can be guaranteed by air motor stall torque.MT10-0056 rpmTorque (Nm)Power (W)250100090020080070015060050010040030050200100000 5 10 14 19 24 29 34 39 44 49 53 58 63 68 73 78 83 88 92 97 102107 112 117 124 Speed (rpm)Power and maximum efficiency Working pointThe air motor MT10-0056 willguarantee a stall torque of 220 Nmunder pressure of 6 bars. So, whentorque increases the power drops. All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC VANE MOTOROperation PrinciplePressurized air (4 to 6 bars) is injected in the multi-vane airmotor via the injection point (I). It arrives in the first chamber(C1) which is put under pressure. Each of the sides of thiscompression chamber will receive a proportional force totheir respective surface.17The sides delimited by the vanes (P1) and (P2) with differentsurface area will both receive different forces. The volumeof the chamber C1 will increase and the air which is insidewill release its pressure. The chamber C2 is now under compression. The sameprocesses are repeated and this allows the constant rotationof the rotor. After the rotation of the rotor, the chamberC1 will be in exhaust position, releasing air outside of themotor.By positioning differently the injection point of air on therotor, we can make it turn left or right. The rotationaldirection of the multi-vane air motor MODEC is defined byviewing it from the back side of the air motor.Change of the rotation, clockwise or counterclockwiseis obtained by switching air injection from one intake toanother. The rotor speed is close to 10,000 rpm under 6 barspressure. To adjust air motor characteristics to the desiredapplication, we use planetary gear reduction. Thanks to the different types of gears and differentcombinations, MODEC multivane air motor can offer awide range of speed and torque. It is possible to built air motor with several reduction level, from 1 to 5 depending of air motor range. For some application, a coupling ring allows small air motorto be mounted with the reduction of higher range. This allowshigh torque in a very small space. In some applications it isnecessary to put in place a torque limitation system in ordernot to pass the breaking limit of the output shaft. All designs, dimensions and specifications are subject to change without notice (December 2008).www.bibus.ch

PNEUMATIC STEPPING MOTOR18BPS Pneumaticstepping motorProduct characteristics• For set and adjustments• Compact and powerful• Stays in position when power line fails• Optional with confirmation of position(internal sensors)Operation PrincipleFunctionality and PrecisionThe BPS stepping motor creates rotation by means of apneumatic activation of three internal pistons. Dependingon the switching sequence of the control valves, a preciseleft/right 3° rotation is performed. The BPS can also be providedwith a hollow shaft and spindle in order to generatea linear movement. Thanks to its unique construction, theBPS offers a maximum of precision. The tolerance is always±9’ angular minutes, irrespective of the number of steps orrotations!Wide range of applicationsWhether dust, dirt or powerful magnetic fields, the pneumaticdrive also offers trouble-free operation in extremeconditions.Compact powerhouse with self-retentionEven the smallest series of BPS stepping motors is certainto impress with a torque of 1.7 Nm and compact diameterof only 52 mm. The self-retention mechanism keeps theBPS in its position even in the event of a power failure. Thismeans that there is no step loss, thus allowing the BPS toserve as an absolute measuring system as well.Simplest controlOnly 3 x 3/2-way valves are needed to drive the BPS. TheBPS can easily be integrated into a PLC. PNEUMATIC STEPPING MOTORAdvantagesExtreme operating conditionsThe BPS reveals its strenghts in the presence of dust, dirt orstrong magnetic fields: pneumatic actuation permits smoothoperation even under the most difficult conditions (operatingtemperature -25 ° to +70 °C, IP 55). The BPS only offerslimited suitability for direct drive of rotating parts with highmass.Small but powerfulEven the smallest model series produces a convincing torqueof 1.7 Nm with a compact 52 mm diameter.Self-lockingEven in the event of a power failure, the BPS maintains itsposition – No step loss occurs. A major advantage for toughapplications.PrecisionWith its unique design, the BPS ensures maximum accuracy. The tolerance amounts to a constant ±9 minutes ofangle, regardless of the number of steps!Easy actuationDirectly via the Matrix valve with 3 valves (3/2-way), with orwithout sensors: the BPS can be incorporated without greatcomplexity into a stored program control. For the “SiemensS7-300” SPC, free program modules are optainable.Sensor unitAll types are available with a sensor unit, reporting the endposition of the pistons to a SPC.BPS IP versionSpecially protected motor housing for operation in Ex zones.Certificated for Ex zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.19TypesIP IP IP IPThe right design for every application. PNEUMATIC STEPPING MOTORTechnical Information24Operating conditions• Dried, oil-free and filtered compressed air (5 μm) at max. 8bars (indicated by valve manufacturer)• The ambient temperature of the stepping motor is -25 °Cto +70 °C• Acids and alkaline substances may damage the motor. For special operating conditions (temperature, fluids etc.),please contact us to enable your particular application tobe studied.AssemblyThe motor can either be fitted from the front by means of the3 threads or else using the 3 continuous bores (see dimensioneddrawing). Before fitting, we advise placing the motorunder pneumatic pressure. This protects the transmissioncomponents when the centric screw N is tightened (seepage 12). When assembling the transmission components(plate, wheels etc.), please make sure that the torque appliedto the drive shaft does not exceed the indicated maximum. After installation, check the connection of the motorand valves for absence of leakage.Actuation3 valves (3/2 way) are required for actuation.ProgrammingThe BPS-IP is generally incorporated into an SPC (StoredProgram Control). In the event of operation with sensors, these report the current position of the three pistons to thecontrol.OperationThe indicated maximum torque and the maximum momentof mass inertia must not be exceeded.Accessories and special versionsPlease contact us for special applications. We will be happy to work with you to design a solution.Easy and intelligent stepping motor controlThe three pistons of the stepping motor have to be pilotedby magnet valves.
