Passenger ship<br />

Gloriya (ex-Gloria, ex-Akademik Vernadskiy). IMO 6726929. Research vessel<br />

modernized and converted to passenger ship in 1997 on the O<strong>des</strong>sa-Istanbul line.<br />

Length 124 m, 4,843 t. Moldavian flag. Unknown classification society. Built in 1968 in<br />

Wismar (Germany) by Mathias-Thesen. Owned by Special Building-Technology (Ukraine). Sold for<br />

demolition in Turkey. 295 $ per ton.<br />

Royale (ex-Casino Royale, ex-Fortune Star , ex-St.Tropez, ex-Manistal, ex-Talisman,<br />

ex-Enchanted Sun, ex-Sofia, ex-Emerald Express, ex-Stena Arcadia ex-Tropic Star II,<br />

ex-Pride Of San Diego, ex-Scandinavian Saga, ex-Castalia). 14 names ! IMO<br />

7350442. Passenger ship. Length 132 m, 5,201 t. Deflagged from Bahamas to Tanzania for her last<br />

journey. Unknown classification society. Ferry built in 1974 in Salamis (Greece) by Kynosoura DY and<br />

converted to cruise ship in 1988. Owned by EXIM Inc (United States). After a period of unemployment in<br />

the Bahamas, the ex floating casino be<strong>com</strong>es Tanzanian and is sold for demolition in India.<br />

Saga Rose (ex-Gripsholm, ex-Sagafjord). IMO 6416043. Passenger ship. Length<br />

188 m. Bahamian flag. Classification society Det Norske Veritas. Built in 1965 in La<br />

Seyne-sur-Mer (France) by Chantiers de la Méditerranée. Owned by Saga Cruises<br />

(United Kingdom). After her retirement from the Saga Cruises fleet, the Saga Rose made three calls in<br />

South Africa in May 2010, then sailed eastward to Asia before being back in the South African waters.<br />

The silence of the British shipowner still leaves room for much speculation about the future of the ship.<br />

The Saga Rose, ultimately, was sold for demolition in China with an utmost discretion. See also p 42,<br />
