ContentsDoing Business 2009 is the sixth in aseries of annual reports investigatingthe regulations that enhance businessactivity and those that constrain it. DoingBusiness presents quantitative indicatorson business regulations and the protectionof property rights that can be comparedacross 181 economies—from Afghanistanto Zimbabwe—and over time.Regulations affecting 10 stages ofthe life of a business are measured: startinga business, dealing with constructionpermits, employing workers, registeringproperty, getting credit, protecting investors,paying taxes, trading across borders,enforcing contracts and closing abusiness. Data in Doing Business 2009 arecurrent as of June 1, 2008.
