Handling of roller chain and sprocket(7) Dimensions for evaluating standard length(chain pitch number of links) and 1.5% elongationare shown in Table 10 below.(8) When the length of the roller chain cannot bemeasured with a vernier, a tape measure maybe used; however, measurements need to betaken over as many links as possible to reducemeasuring error.(9) When chain elongation of Lambda/X-LambdaRoller Chain reaches about 0.5% it may belosing its lubricating properties. This may bedetermined by the adhesion of red wearparticles between the plates and the occurrenceof articulation stiffness. When this occurs, thelife of the chain has been reached.Standard Length and 1.5% Elongation (Table 10)Chain No.6 link Standard lengthMeasure 1.5% Elongation10 linkMeasure6 linkMeasure10 linkMeasureChain No.Standard length1.5% ElongationStandard length1.5% ElongationStandard length1.5% ElongationChain No.6 link Standard lengthMeasure 1.5% Elongation10 linkMeasureStandard length1.5% ElongationChain No.6 link Standard lengthMeasure 1.5% Elongation10 linkMeasureStandard length1.5% ElongationRS25 RS35 RS41 RS4038.10 57.15 76.20 76.2038.67 58.01 77.34 77.3463.50 95.25 127.00 127.0064.45 96.68 128.91 128.91RS50 RS60 RS80 RS10095.25 114.30 152.40 190.5096.68 116.01 154.69 193.36158.75 190.50 254.00 317.50161.13 193.36 257.81 322.26RS120 RS140 RS160 RS180228.60 266.70 304.80 342.90232.03 270.70 309.37 348.04381.00 444.50 508.00 571.50386.72 451.17 515.62 580.07RS200 RS240381.00 457.20386.72 464.06635.00 762.00644.53 773.437.4 Inspection of lifting and shuttle traction1) This should be carried out with the same requirementsas for ordinary transmission shown in item 6.3.2) It is important to check the lubrication of theconnecting parts between the roller chain and endbrackets where end brackets are installed, as welll asthe parts where the roller chain winds around thesprocket. (Refer to item 3.2 on page 160)3) The parts where the roller chain bends around thesprocket should be checked when inspecting the wearelongation of the roller chain.4) Inspection of twisting and side bending of theroller chain. If partial twisting or side bending ofthe chain occurs, the complete roller chain shouldbe replaced. (Fig. 29)Side bendingTwistingFig. 29 Twisting of the roller chain5) End fittingsCheck for damage by deformation of the hole dueto wear. If the hole is dameged or deformed, replace the end bracket immediately. Theclearance on the pinhole of the bracket affects thelife of the roller chain and should be kept to aminimumHourglass shapeFig. 30 Wear on the end fitting holeOblong hole7.5 StorageAvoid storing spare parts, such as a roller chain, sprockets, and end brackets, in high temperature/highhumidity and dusty environments. Also, when storingroller chain that has been removed, wash the rollerchain and then apply lubrication. After the roller chainclearances have been supplied with a sufficientamount of lubricant, wrap the chain in grease papercompletely before storing away. Before Use For Safe Use Standard Roller Chains Lube-Free Roller Chains Heavy Duty Roller Chains Corrosion Resistant Roller Chains Specialty Roller Chains Accessories Selection Handling168
