Navigation LightingInternational StandardsHella marine navigation lamps comply with the International Regulations for Prevention ofCollisions at Sea (IMO COLREG 72).This IMO compliance, together with supplementary national requirements, is listed with eachnavigation lamp series throughout the catalogue.Main approval types:Complies with IMO (International Maritime Organization) requirements under theInternational Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea. (IMO COLREG 72)IMO COLREG 72 forms the international basis for legal navigation lighting on vessels.Approved by the German BSH (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie) andcarry BSH type approval numbers.BSH was formerly called DHI (Deutsches Hydrographisches Institut).Approved by the Italian RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) authority.Approved lamps carry a RINA type approval number.Complies with USCG (United States Coast Guard) requirements.Lamps carry a marking for minimum visible distance in nautical miles,Eg USCG 2 NM.Complies with ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) Navigation LampStandard A-16.Approved under the Marine Equipment Directive (MED) 96/98/EC last modified bydirective 208/67/EC for use throughout Europe in all EC member states for bothpleasure and commercial vessels.12

International StandardsBSH NaviLED ® PRO Self Diagnostic ControlHella marine NaviLED ® PRO BSH LED navigation lamps are type approved and certifiedaccording to the European norm EN 14744 by the German Federal Maritime andHydrographic Agency (BSH) for German inland waterways and the open sea.To ensure long term safety at sea, each NaviLED ® PRO BSH navigation lamp is equipped with asophisticated self diagnostic control.A photometrical self-test is carried out by the lamp in periodic intervals. If the light output, andconsequently the visibility, reaches a pre-determined value, the lamp activates ‘Service Mode’.Service Mode is indicated by the lamp flashing at a rate of 60 flashes per minute for 15 seconds assoon as the lamp is switched on. This will occur for 15 seconds every time the lamp is switched onuntil the unit has operated for 2000 hours. After 2000 hours the Service Mode flash rate doubles to 120 flashes per minute for 15 seconds assoon as the lamp is switched on.To ensure the lamp meets the light output criteria of its certification, Hella marine recommends thelight module be replaced as soon as it enters this 2000 hour Service Mode stage. The 2000 Service Mode flash rate should not occur earlier than tens of thousands of hours. Byregular recreational boating standards, even with regular night sailing, this stage will hardly ever bereached.Wheelmark ApprovalThe ‘Wheelmark’ for navigation lights symbolises conformity withthe requirements of the norms EN 14744 (European standardfor navigation lights on inland and sea-going vessels) and withEN 60945 stipulating methods of testing and standards requiredfor maritime navigation equipment.‘Wheelmark’ certified Hella marine LED navigation lamps are approved throughout Europe in all ECmember states for both pleasure and commercial vessels.Wheelmark approvals replace the previously required certificates of the national authorities with theaim of ensuring that the equipment meets a common standard of safety and performance valid ineach member state of the EU.A predominant safety requirement of EN 14744 for LED navigation lights is the monitoring andcontrol of light output deviations caused by service life conditions. The Hella marine solutionis a sophisticated self control and diagnostic electronics integrated into each BSH certifiedNaviLED ® PRO LED navigation lamp. The electronics check and measure each lamp ensuring light intensity, and consequently the lamp’svisibility performance, permanently correspond to the visibility requirements of the norm for ongoingsafety and reliability at sea.The MED certification of each Hella marine NaviLED ® PRO series lamp can be recognized by thesymbol of a ship’s wheel (‘Wheelmark’) engraved onto the top section of the shroud, and also ontothe top section of the lens.*The MED lists statutory equipment carried and used on ships which are registered under the flagsof the European Union member states which have to meet the international conventions developedby the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).13

LED Deck Floodlights

IntroductionLED Deck FloodlightsLED Deck Floodlight TechnologyHella marine LED deck floodlights provide efficient, power saving and ultra durableillumination for reliability and safety at sea.Benefits of LED lighting technology:Ultra Low Power ConsumptionCombining efficient LED light sources with advanced optic technology, Hella marine LEDproducts deliver more light output per watt than traditional bulb lamps and provide considerableenergy savings. As an example, Hella marine LED Module 70 lamps use less than 30% of the power required torun a 55W H3 incandescent bulb floodlight (eg Hella marine 7118 series.)No bulbs, No maintenance. Ultra long service lifeHella marine LED technology has no filaments to break, making the lamps extremely shock andvibration resistant for reliable illumination and safety. Our engineering team has developed a unique range of highly demanding tests to lift productreliability to new standards.Ultra low heat signature for improved safetyAll Hella marine LED lamps featuring an ultra low heat signature due to their low powerconsumption. This provides many safety and installation advantages as the risks of heat damageto materials or people caused by traditional halogen lamps are completely eliminated.Fully sealed for lifeEach Hella marine LED lamp is a completely sealed opto-electronic device. Proven design, precision engineering, and the use of high impact acrylic materials ensures superior resistance towater, impact, UV and general wear and tear.Pre-wired with marine cableHella marine LED lamps are pre-wired with quality marine specification tinned cable. The cableis completely sealed to the lamp body providing time saving at installation and reliable electricalconnection.Multivolt TM technology for durability and safetyAdvanced Multivolt TM circuitry provides a uniform level of intensity for reliable and safe illuminationacross a range of DC inputs such as 8-28 volts or 9-33 volts.Multivolt TM LED lamps can be connected to 12 or 24 volt systems without modification, providingfull light performance and automatic compensation for low battery voltages and voltage drop overlong cables and connections.Hella marine Multivolt TM LED lamps are also reverse polarity and spike protected for enhanceddurability even under severe voltage fluctuations.Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)All Hella marine LED products are electronic devices. Their electrical circuits containcomponents that suppress possible interference, both emission as well as susceptibility toemissions, to the limits prescribed in international standards.34

Text AlignmentSince 1925, Hella marine hasbeen an international pioneer of highquality deck lighting.Today, Halogen, Xenon and LED based technologyall feature advanced lens, optic and reflector designs, stainless steel mounting hardware, impact resistantcomponents and durable construction for enhancedsafety and reliability at sea.LED Module 70 seriesThe future of efficient and durable deck lighting is LEDbased. Compared to traditional halogen bulb basedlamps, the energy saving and improved reliability benefitson offer with quality LED lamps are clear.Hella marine LED Mega Beam and LED Module 70 serieslamps illuminate cockpit and deck areas with crisp whitelight for only 15W of power consumption. This representssignificant savings compared to the 55W consumed by12V halogen floodlights running H3 bulbs. These power savings are possible due to highly efficientLEDs and optics to provide more light output per wattthan halogen based floodlights.Effective lens and optic engineering play an importantrole to capture and spread the available light ontoeffective working surfaces without glare or eye strain.LED Sea Hawk seriesAdvances in the luminous efficiency of white LED deviceshave opened doors to the development of a new andunique class of Hella marine LED floodlight. The LED Sea Hawk series offers ultra lightweight andultra efficient performance in a compact housing tocompliment the shapes and installations spaces availableon today’s vessels.Reliability and strength is further enhanced via the highperformance Grilamid ® lens.Consuming less than 3W and offering an impressive240 lumens, the Sea Hawk series is highly efficient, completely sealed and has a very cool surfacetemperature.Hall Spars Hella marine LED Masthead / Floodlight installationwww.hallspars.com35

HID (Xenon) and Halogen Deck Floodlights41

Deck FloodlightsIntroduction to Xenon Gas DischargeXenon Gas Discharge (HID) TechnologyHID Deck Floodlights differ from traditional bulb versions. Instead of light being createdby passing current through a filament to make it glow, light is created by an arc in a tubefilled with a mixture of xenon gas and metal salts. The light arc is shock proof as thereis no filament to break.A compact 12V or 24V DC electronic ballast is used to ignite the HID bulb and provideconstant levels of light output, even if the vessel’s voltage supply fluctuates by up to 10%.The advantages of using Xenon Gas Discharge (HID) deck floodlights in comparison tohalogen versions include:• 2.5 times the luminous flux (light output) and 35% less power consumption.• Increased luminance results in a brighter and larger illumination of working areas.• Light spectrum is similar to daylight – for natural colour reproduction of theenvironment.• Vibration resistant light arc instead of a fragile filament.• Service life up to five times longer – reduced expenditure for bulb replacement.• Constant brightness – independent of fluctuations of up to 10% in the supply voltage.• Only 42W power consumption – less strain on the vessel's power supply.Free Form reflector with Gas Discharge (HID)Important information concerning mounting and operation ofXenon Gas Discharge (HID) technology.• HID deck floodlights are supplied with a wiring harness, relay and fuse. Thestartup current of 20A (for 12V) or 10A (for 24V) requires a relay under allcircumstances.A 20A fuse is required for 12V systems, a 15A fuse for 24V systems.• Complete the electrical connection only with wiring harness supplied. Whenextending the wiring harness, sufficient cross section must be ensured. The internal resistance of the electrical connection (including relay, fuse andearth lead) between ballast and battery, must not exceed 150W (for 12V) or300W (for 24V) under all circumstances. If the resistance is higher, the currentof 20A (for 12V) or 10A (for 24V) required for ignition of the light arc cannot bereached. Inefficient ignition use can cause damage to the electronic ballast.• Ignition problems can occur when a number of Xenon lamps are startedsimultaneously. This can result in damage to the electronic ballasts. For this reason it is strongly recommended to activate the lamps sequentiallywith a short time delay of approximately 5-20 seconds depending on thevessels electrical system.Scott Robson 50ft Sportfisher Cerveza II.Image provided by New Zealand Professional Skipper Magazine. www.skipper.co.nz42

Due to advanced ‘Free Form’ reflector technology, Hella marine HIDfloodlights have 2.5 times the light output of halogen floodlights.HID floodlights produce a white light very close to daylight, with a greater range and extremelywide deck illumination. The safety benefits of increased natural white light include easier viewingin dark working conditions and dramatically reduced eye strain.A compact 12V or 24V DC electronic ballast provides constant levels of light output, even if thevessel’s voltage supply fluctuates by up to 10%.In addition, HID floodlights place less strain on the vessel's electrical system than halogen deckfloodlights - total consumption is 42W - 35W for the bulb, 7W for the ballast.MetresHousing Description UV and impact resistant plastic housingBulb35W D2S bulb includedMountingUpright mountingDegree of Protection IP 5K4Maximum OutputApprox. 42W (12V) or 41W (24V)Operating Voltage 12V DC 9 - 16V24V DC 18 - 32VReplacement Bulb Type -D2S12 / 24V / 35WGas discharge bulb8GH 002 091-0016142 Series HID Deck Floodlights with Integrated BallastVoltage Housing Colour Part Number12V White Housing 1GA 996 142-20124V White Housing 1GA 996 142-21116050163150191 6269.554276.58534 Series HID Deck Floodlights with Remote BallastVoltage Housing Colour Part Number12V White Housing 1GA 998 534-02124V White Housing 1GA 998 534-031350249343127101 842411214043

Deck FloodlightsIntroduction to Halogen Free Form TechnologyThe comprehensive range of Hella marine Deck Floodlights represents superiortechnology, high performance and durability.Features include advanced lens and reflector designs for homogeneous light output, stainless steel mounting components and impact resistant housings for reliableoperation at sea.Reflector systems used in Hella marine Deck FloodlightsThe Paraboloid Deck FloodlightsA conventional deck floodlight has a light reflector in the mathematically definedshape of a paraboloid. The reflector captures the light of the bulb and reflectsit initially focused parallel in the form of far-reaching pencil beam pattern. Thespecific light distribution pattern is then produced by the optical lenses and prismsin the profiled cover lens to achieve a precise distribution pattern.Paraboloid reflector with profiled cover lensModern FF (Free Form) Deck FloodlightsIn contrast to the paraboloid based technology, the task of the cover lens ofdistributing the light is integrated into the surface of the reflector which is shapedas a Free Form. The computer-calculated FF reflector produces the required beampattern. The optical pattern still present in the cover lens enhances the uniformityof the light beam.Advantages of FF technology:- Small FF reflectors capture more light from the bulb andachieve a large working area- Much larger beam scattering can be realised for extremelywide beam patterns- The more homogeneous illumination means more pleasantworking light with soft transitions at the edges without harsh contrastsFree Form reflector44

LED Interior and Exterior Lighting

IntroductionLED Interior and Exterior LightingLED TechnologyHella marine LED interior, exterior and courtesy lamps provide efficient, powersaving and ultra durable illumination for reliability and safety at sea.Benefits of LED lighting technology:Ultra Low Power ConsumptionCombining efficient LED light sources with advanced optic technology, Hella marine LEDproducts deliver more light output per watt than traditional bulb lamps and thus provideconsiderable energy savings. As an example, Hella marine DuraLed ® heavy duty 36 LED lamps use less than 15%of the power required to run a 60W fluorescent lamp, yet provide a considerably wider, whiter and more intense light pattern.Ultra low heat signature for improved safetyAll Hella marine LED lamps feature an ultra low heat signature due to their low powerconsumption. This provides many safety and installation advantages as the risks ofheat damage to materials or people caused by traditional halogen lamps are completelyeliminated. Hella marine LED lamps can be installed almost anywhere onboard, directlyonto timber, fabrics and lightweight composite materials. No bulbs, No maintenance. Ultra long service lifeHella marine LED technology has no filaments to break, thus making the LED lampsextremely shock and vibration resistant for reliable illumination and safety. Our engineering team has developed a unique range of highly demanding tests to liftproduct reliability to new standards.Fully sealed for lifeEach Hella marine LED lamp is a completely sealed opto-electronic device.Proven design, precision engineering, and the use of high impact acrylic materialsensures superior resistance to water, impact, UV and general wear and tear.Pre-wired with marine cableHella marine LED lamps are pre-wired with quality marine specification tinned cable. The cable is completely sealed to the lamp body providing time saving at installation andreliable electrical connection.Multivolt TM technology for durability and safetyAdvanced Multivolt TM circuitry provides a uniform level of intensity for reliable and safeillumination across a range of DC inputs such as 8-28 volts or 9-33 volts.Multivolt TM LED lamps can be connected to 12 or 24 volt systems without modification, providing full light performance and automatic compensation for low battery voltages, and voltage drop over long cables and connections.Hella marine Multivolt TM LED lamps are also reverse polarity and spike protected forenhanced durability even under severe voltage fluctuations.Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)All Hella marine LED products are electronic devices. Their electrical circuits containcomponents that suppress possible interference, both emission as well as susceptibilityto emissions, to the limits prescribed in international standards.56

Maritimo M73 www.maritimo.com.auWelcome to the future of ultra efficient illuminationHella marine LED lighting products are sophisticated opto-electronic devices designedfor durable, energy efficient, maintenance free operation.Recent quantum leaps in the luminous intensity of LEDs per watt have allowed marinelighting systems to develop significantly to effectively illuminate a vessel’s interior.Quality LED lighting provides many significantadvantages over traditional filament basedsources. Significantly reduced powerconsumption, increased reliability, reduction inradiated heat and attractive ambient effects areall benefits of modern LED lighting systems. The following are key considerations whenselecting LED lighting for marine interior andexterior applications.Power saving on boardThe single most influential driver for LEDtechnology on most yachts and powerboatsis the considerable power saving on offercompared to incandescent lamps. Lightingsystems are a major part of a vessel’selectrical architecture where consumption canbe dramatically reduced. The opportunity tosave hundreds of amp hours is available now.As a recent example, the entire Hella marineLED lighting system specified for a Maritimo73ft motor yacht draws less than 7 Amps. Toilluminate the same interior layout with halogenlamps would have totalled over 62 Amps. Thereduction in cable size and weight togetherwith the safety aspects of an almost zero heatsignature was also highly beneficial. The majority of the lamps specified for theMaritimo 73 system are the compact 9599series LED downlights. Each lamp consumesless than 0.8W yet produces the equivalentlight output of a 10W halogen lamp. Suchefficiency is class leading.Hella marine reliabilityDue to their solid state nature, LEDs do nothave filaments to break, however LEDs dorequire precise current regulation and voltageprotection to provide long term reliability. For LED lighting manufacturers, many designand engineering milestones are required toproduce durable products that provide ongoingperformance in marine applications.Hella marine LED products feature severalkey advantages such as completely sealedhousings, sealed cable entries, effectiveelectronic protection, shock, vibrationLED vs Halogen current drawcomparison on Maritimo M73Halogen62 Amps @ 24V74 x Halogen lampseach consuming20WHella marine LED7 Amps @ 24V210 x LED lampseach consuming

and impact resistant components that allcontribute towards outstanding reliability.Compared to incandescent lighting, wherea filament inside a bulb may break at anymoment, Hella marine LED lighting is ‘fit andforget’.Many LED lamp manufacturers claimoperating lifetimes of 50,000 or 100,000hours, however in many cases these claimsare generalized. The high power LED devicesare often too new to have been thoroughlytested for such periods. These lifetimeestimates are often based on LED componentspecifications from the device manufacturerrather than the life of the complete lamp in amarine installation.Colour temperature examples1800K 4000K 5500K 8000K 12000K 16000K1850 K Candle2800 K Halogen G4 Bulb (Incandescent lamp)3000 K Hella marine Warm White LED Downlight5000 K Hella marine White LED Downlight5200 K Hella marine White EuroLED ® lamp6500 K Hella marine LED Mega Beam Floodlight6500 K DaylightIn the harsh marine environment, salt aircorrosion to circuit boards, light degradationdue to excessive heat, vibration fatigue, shock loads, voltage fluctuations and lowbattery voltages all contribute to reduce theoperating life of LED lamps without thoroughengineering and electronic protection. Thesupplier’s warranty policy, integrity and trackrecord is often a more accurate benchmark onthe lifetime and quality of the LED lamp underconsideration.Colour Temperature and RenderingUntil recently, the lack of high quality whiteLED devices with sufficient intensity has beenthe major factor preventing the acceptanceof LEDs for general marine lighting purposes.LEDs had a reputation for appearing ‘cold’and ‘blue’ due to there phosphorous coatingheritage. However today’s high efficacydevices can rival traditional incandescent lightsources for colour and ambience. When selecting LED interior lighting, colourtemperature is an important consideration.Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin anddescribes the effect of heating an object untilit glows incandescently. The emitted radiation, and apparent colour changes in proportion tothe temperature; envisioned when consideringhot metal in a forge that glows red, thenorange, and then white as the temperatureincreases.White lightHella marine describes higher colourtemperatures (>5200K or more) as ‘cool’white, and lower colour temperatures (

Lighting designers may specify cool white forgalley areas and warm white where there is anabundance of varnished timber work instead ofhigh gloss gel coat surfaces.Enhancing interiors with attractive colour matched illumination.Hella marine offers highly efficient LED lamps with colour temperatures in the warm whiterange of 3000K, or white range of 5000K.Specialist LED selection and quality control ensures the colour temperature and colourrendering performance is matched across similar series. The result is a uniform colourtemperature and ambience throughout a vessel when different lamps are installed.Warm WhiteWhiteLight OutputFor an effective comparison of the differentproducts from marine LED manufacturers, manyfactors must be considered. The best lamp fora given application is no longer the one thatsolely meets a style requirement. Today, powerconsumption, efficiency, output and beam anglemust be considered together with light colour, shape, and the aesthetics and finish of thehousing itself. The following performance data is worthconsidering -Luminous FluxMeasured in Lumens (lm), luminous fluxdescribes the total quantity of light producedfrom a lamp. The higher the lumen count, themore intense the light output.Luminous intensityMeasured in Candela (cd), luminous intensity isthe luminous flux at a particular angle from thelight source. Peak candela occurs at 0 degrees,i.e. directly below a lamp.Rakino0956 seriesRakino0959 seriesIlluminanceMeasured in Lux (lx), Illuminance is equal toluminous flux divided by the illuminated area. One lux is equal to one lumen per square meter.Tiri0957 seriesPonui0771 seriesTiri0956 seriesPonui0770 seriesLuminous Flux (Lumens) / Area= Illuminance (Lux).orIlluminance (Lux) x Area= Luminous Flux (Lumens)If both the area to be illuminated and thedesired level of illumination are known, the totalnumber of lumens required can be calculated.Divide the total lumens by the output of theLED lamp under consideration to determinethe number of fixtures required to deliver thedesired light output.Waiheke0681 seriesWaiheke9076 seriesOblong9680 seriesWaiheke0681 seriesWaiheke9076 seriesOblong9680 seriesEg, A powerboat salon of 10 square meters andthe desired illumination level is 120 Lux, a totalof 1200 lumens are required. If the LED lamp under consideration has aluminous flux of 80 lumens, 15 lamps will berequired (1200 / 80 = 15).For further comparisons it is also important toconsider the beam angle of an LED lamp, andthe lux levels available at varying distances fromthe device. Narrow light beams may provideeffective intensity directly under the fitting, butmay not evenly illuminate an interior as the lightmay be too narrow with many shadows betweeneffectively lit areas.Easy Fit8560 seriesEasy Fit8560 series59

Hella marine Light Performance DiagramsNo formula exists for lighting designersto directly correlate the luminous flux ofthe LED component used or the powerconsumption of the LED device to theperformance of the entire LED luminaire. While the lumen output of the LEDdoes describe how much luminous fluxis generated, it does not indicate howeffectively that light is distributed. The Hella marine light performancediagrams show output and spread in twoformats. The Candela curves show peakcandela across a range of angles andillustrate the light pattern and peak intensityaccording to the scale used. (A uniformscale for all diagrams is used to aid productcomparisons)The Lux charts show the spread of light, calculated first from the candela curve bydetermining the angle where half of thepeak candela output occurs. In Fig 1 below, peak candela is 375cd(measured at 0 degrees). Half of this output(187.5cd) occurs at +/- 7.5 degrees, thusthe lamp has a spread of 15 degrees. Whilethere will be light beyond these angles, the majority of light will be occur inside therange shown. The lux data shows how much light iscast upon a surface at a given distance. The diagrams indicate peak lux (at 0degrees), lux at the specified angle and theapproximate length of surface area that willbe illuminated inside the range shown.Recommended Lux ValuesAreaLuxEngine room 200-250Galley surfaces 150-250Heads 150-200Salon 100-150Companionway 70-100Cabins 70-100Flybridge 70-100Cockpit 70-100Fig 1.Hella marine 9599 series LED Downlight (Spot)Candela and Lux performance500LED Downlight Spot White Light Candela OutputLuminous Intensity - Distance / Lux45040015°3503002501m185370 Lux270 mm185200150100Intensity (cd)50−40° −30° −20° −10° 0° 10° 20° 30° −40°Angle2m4692.5 Lux540 mm4660

The higher the lumens per watt, thehigher the efficiency.E.g. A single Hella marine 9599 series whiteLED downlight consumes less than 0.8W andproduces around 80 lumens. 80 / 0.8 = 100lumens per watt.It may also be an interesting comparison todivide the luminous flux of a lamp by its costto derive lumens per dollar. The more lumensper dollar (flux per bucks), the more light foryour investment. Also, it is important to determine that theefficacy of the LED lamp is measured as thedevices total efficacy, not the efficacy of onlythe LED(s) employed. Power consumed torun an electronic power supply driving andcontrolling the LED(s) is always a contributorto the lamps total consumption.Heat reduction and thermalmanagementWith the power saving benefits of efficientLED based devices also comes heat reductionbenefits. The sometimes dangerously hightemperatures of 10W and 20W halogen lampsonboard can be eliminated with high efficiencyLED technology. This allows boat buildersand designers a wide scope of installationpossibilities where the air cavity behindincandescent lamps, traditionally reserved forcooling, is no longer required. Efficient LEDlamps can be mounted into solid surfaces andcomposite structures without risk of fire orheat damage to surrounding materials.Well engineered thermal management ofan LED device is essential for long-termdurability. A common misconception is thatLED’s do not generate heat. LEDs consumepower and some of this power is alsoconverted into heat, even in the most energyefficient LEDs. In contrast to incandescentlamps however LED’s like to ‘run cold’. Asa rule of thumb, the hotter an LED runs thefaster it will degrade. A lower, and in extremecases much lower light performance willresult.High performance LED’s do generate heat, which needs to be coupled to surfacesdesigned to efficiently transport the heataway from the LED itself. LEDs that overheat, meaning the junction temperature of the LEDrises above a set threshold, will permanentlydegrade and significantly reduce theirluminous efficacy.A noticeably ‘hot to touch’ exteriorsurface of a high output LED interior lampprovides some indication that the lightoutput of the device will deteriorate withina few hundred hours. Hella marine LEDlamps will operate ‘cool’ or ‘slightly warm’to the touch after many hours of operation.61

Riviera 43FB www.riviera.com.auEuroLED ® seriesLens and Optic engineeringPrecision engineered lens and opticcombinations on powerful single LEDlamps such as the 0630 and 0631series EuroLED ® lamps are essentialfor efficient performance. The optics work to efficiently captureand distribute light from a highly intensesingle point source and provide a wideand uniform light pattern without glareor eye discomfort.Hella marine thermal management expertise, coupled with proven optics and electronic design, ensures the long term durability with minimaldegradation over many years of service.Lens and Optic TechnologyTo maximise the ever increasing efficacy ofadvanced LEDs, efficient optic design is essential tocapture and spread the available light and to evenlyilluminate areas on board.Unlike incandescent light sources, LED devicesbegin with a directional light pattern. The goalfor optics designers, working an application suchas interior down lighting, is to create optics andlens patterns that produce an effective spread ofhomogeneous illumination throughout the interior. This even spread of light is often more importantthan how intense a lamp looks when viewedstraight on.All Hella marine LED lamps use efficient optics, lens designs or Free-Form reflector technology toaccurately capture and distribute large percentagesof available light from the LED source or sources.Examples include:- Oblong LED step lamps with a 30 degree downangle light beam to illuminate the tread of steps andstairs without dazzle from the lamps themselves.- Round and Square LED courtesy lamps providingattractive uniform light patterns via an efficient opticand lens with embedded glass spheres for minimumlight losses.62Tiara 4200 www.tiarayachts.com

- EuroLED ® lamps employ an finely machinedoptic and lens combination to provide an evenspread of bright white light with minimum lightlosses.- 9599 series LED downlights with powerful ‘Spot’or ‘Spread’ light distribution patterns without glare.Lens, Optic Technology andEye SafetyTo take advantage of the ever increasing efficacyof the most advanced LEDs, efficient optic designis essential to capture and spread the availableluminous flux emitted by the LED and to evenlyilluminate areas. With significant advances of LED brightness, eyesafety considerations are increasingly important. It is essential for high power LEDs to be coupledwith optic designs that protect the eye’s retinafrom possible damage when viewed directly. It is desirable for the entire lens area of a lamp tobe evenly illuminated via an efficient optic ratherthan using a multiple of LEDs without any optic.Easily visible LEDs inside a luminaire without anyoptic or lens protection can cause a degree oreven significant eye discomfort if viewed directly.Riviera 43FB www.riviera.com.auCostsQuality LED interior and exterior lamps haveshifted lighting systems from an incandescentglobe based inside a housing or reflector tocomplex engineered opto-electronic devices. These devices now incorporate advanced drivecircuits, spike and over voltage protection, optics, lenses, plus the LED source itself. As a result, the added features and benefitsof effective LED lighting do carry higher costscompared to incandescent lamps. However, for many applications the substantial powersavings, long term reliability and improved safetyadvantages are a convincing value proposition forastute owners and operators.Night Vision- Why red light does not affectour night vision. The human eye contains two types ofreceptors, the rods and the cones. Rodsand cones have an increased sensitivityto frequency bands at different ends ofthe visual spectrum.Rods are largely responsible for ourday time and colour vision and have anincreased sensitivity towards the redband of the visual spectrum. Cones areresponsible for our night vision capabilityand have an increased sensitivity towardsthe blue, shorter wavelength band of thevisual spectrum. For this reason red light will not affect thesensitivity of the cones and with that ournight vision is not affected by the use ofred light in the cabin.New Zealand Coastguard Rayglass Protector 850 www.rayglass.co.nz63

Touch thecolour pad for red or blue light, the white pad forwhite light. On the dual colour versions, hold yourfinger on the pad for more than two seconds andthe lamp will cycle through four dimming levels.Release your finger on the light level required.Dual colour EuroLED ® Touch lamps can alsobe remotely operated from multiple points with‘off the shelf’ ON/OFF/ON momentary switches.Holding one of the external switches for twoseconds will synchronise the lamps to the samedimming level. The durability of EuroLED ® Touch lamps isoutstanding. Each lamp is completely waterproof, impact and shock resistant, for an ultra longservice life. Multivolt TM circuitry providesconsistent illumination across a range of inputvoltages from 9-33 DC, even under severevoltage fluctuations.EuroLED ® Touch lamps overcome thepoor reliability and light output problems ofincandescent lamps. They provide ultra reliable, power saving lighting for all types of commercialand recreational applications.Light levels are ‘remembered’ by the lampscircuitry, even when a vessel’s batteries areturned off. The lamp will always turn on at thecolour intensity previously set, regardless ofpower interruption.EuroLED ® Touch current draw is 4W on white(0.33A @ 12V) and less than 1.5W on red or blue(less than 0.125A @ 12V) to provide significantpower savings.Glare diffusion without light loss is importantwith any LED lamp to maintain efficiency andsafety, particularly with powerful lamps such asthe EuroLED ® series. AccessoriesLight Dimmer and Voltage Sensitive Relay8572 Series - 2 Group Light DimmerFeatures:- Precise dimming control for 1 or 2 light groups- Voltage regulation & ‘soft-start’ bulb protection- Low voltage battery protection- 12V and 24V DCThe Hella marine 2 Group Light Dimmer provides precise dimming control for one or twoseparate light groups, and sophisticated voltage regulation with a ‘soft-start’ feature tolengthen the life of a filament bulbs. The dimmer also provides low voltage protection againstdeep battery discharge. When batteries are charged voltage can rise to 14.4V on 12V systems or 28.8V on 24Vsystems, this can shorten the life of bulbs. The 2 Group Dimmer increases bulb life through sophisticated internal voltage regulation, ensuring the lighting circuit voltage does not rise above 12V or 24V. As halogen bulbs alsohave a high inrush current on start up, the 2 Group Dimmer features ‘soft-start’ to furtherlengthen bulb life. The dimmers low voltage protection also protects against deep battery discharge.Lights will turn off automatically when battery voltage is lower than 9V on a12V system or lower than 18V on a 24V system. Lights can be switched onagain when the battery is charged and reaches 12V or 24V respectively.99Max. Load200W at 12V and 400W at 24VMax. Replacement Bulbs

AccessoriesReplacement Bulbs - IntroductionHella marine bulbs are top quality products sourced from leading international bulb manufacturers.Below is an introduction on each bulb type.Incandescent BulbsIncandescent bulbs, also referred to as ‘standard’ bulbs, produce lightby heating a filament until it is white hot. Incandescent bulbs becomeprogressively dimmer over the course of their service life, becauseheating the filament makes it slowly burn away, with residue settling onthe inside of the glass envelope.Halogen BulbsHalogen bulbs contain a gas mixture which consists of halogencompounds (usually compounds of iodine or bromine). Light isproduced in much the same way as an incandescent bulb. However, when particles burn off the filament, they are returned by a chemicalprocess involving the halogen in the bulb. This means that the lightproduced by a halogen bulb is relatively consistent over the course ofthe bulb’s entire service life.Xenon Gas Discharge (HID) BulbsXenon bulbs use an electric current arc passed through Xenon gas, rather than a filament, to produce light. This method requires minimal electric current draw compared tofilament lighting, and its output is comparable to daylight. As the human eye has evolved to see in daylight, Xenon lightingcauses less eye strain than other bulb types, making it a moreconvenient and safer night lighting option. Xenon bulbs increasereflections on road signs and markings.Advantages of Gas Discharge (HID) LightingHID lighting is highly energy efficient producing approximately 90lumens per watt compared to a quartz halogen lamp of approximately25 lumens per watt.• Light colour very similar to daylight – reduces eye strain• Steady brightness levels even if power supply varies• Impact and vibration resistant light arc ensures a bulb service lifefive times longer than standard bulbsLight OutputOperating Voltage % Light Output %85 5390 6795 83100 100(Based on a mean operating voltage of 100% = 13.5V or 27V)Light output for a filament lightsource is dependent on the voltage.Low voltage causes low output andshorter life, especially for halogenbulbs, because regeneration does notoccur. Over voltage causes excessivetungsten erosion and the filament mayprematurely break due to the filamentbeing closer to its melting point.114
