Resolution Passed byGeneral CouncilAnnual MeetingOctober 29, 2011Whereas we have all discussed over several years the need for participationby the next generation of Hindu Americans (youth, youngadults, and young families) in all the activities of the temple, andWhereas we have attempted several ways of accomplishing this and nowbelieve that it is critical to the temple’s long-term sustainability, andWhereas it is clear now that there are many constituencies that comprisethis “Next-Generation group” and that we do not fully understandtheir needs and wants; We believe that it is time to formally constitute a group representingvarious segments of this “ Next-Generation group” and requestthem to tell us how they would like to shape their interaction with thetemple, and what we need to do to facilitate to prepare a plan of actionto ensure that it happens. Therefore, be it resolved by this General Council that the Board ofTrustees constitute a Next-Generation Action Planning Group (‘TheNext-Gen Group’) by December 31, 2011. The Next-Gen Group willconsist of approximately 21 members representing a variety of Next-Generation in the 16-40 year age group and they will be authorizedto study this issue and come up with specific, actionable steps for thetemple to do, so as to significantly increase their participation in all itsactivities, including in the leadership and governance of the temple. The action plan from the Next-Gen Group will be tabled at the 2012General Council meeting (or earlier) with a report from the BOT onactions planned. The charter of the Next-Gen Group will include but not limited to thefollowing items:Defining the various cohorts in the 16-40 year age groups and establishingcommunications with them;Exploring activities and programs to bring them to the temple andengaging them in their activities;Recommending ways to provide orientation and leadership trainingto this group;Proposing structures (e.g. committees or social media) for them tocommunicate their views on an ongoing basis;Setting achievable goals for volunteer participation and membershipin devotee committees and in the BOT;Proposing mechanisms to monitor the progress with the goals.Passed unanimously. Next steps are organization of the group and abudget with approval of BOT and the action planning process begins!Stay tuned for developments.Seminar and Lecture Seriesby Sadhvi ChaitanyaTopic: Upadesha SaramUpadesha Saram is a beautiful poem composed by BhagavanRamana Maharshi revealing the truth of the self as free of samsara. The reality is that all that is here is one non-dual consciousness, brahman, which is the cause of the universe, whichis manifest as the universe, and which is free of limitations. Theunderstanding of oneself as brahman leads to freedom from ignorance, sorrow and bondage.Saturday, Dec.3rd, 2011 Sunday, Dec. 4th, 2011Meditation: 9 - 9:30 am Meditation: 9 - 9:30 amLecture: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm Lecture: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm(Held in SSVT Education Room):Jan. 2012 Seminar dates: Jan. 7 & 8, 20127Cont’d from page 1for helping organize the eventfor the third year in a row.Sweets donated by SSVT weredistributed after the functionwhich was attended by variousdignitaries including theAmbassador of India to theUS, Nirupama Rao.Also for the first time on November3, 2011 SSVT was invitedto Maryland Governor’sMansion to celebrate DiwaliVolunteers NeededSri Siva Vishnu Temple is a premier institution which holds a varietyof cultural activities all around the year.
