The game will be videostreamed live on <strong>the</strong> Blue DragonSports Network and on radio on KHUT-FM (102.9) and KWBW-AM (1450) at 1:20 p.m.Gates will open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets, which can be purchased online on <strong>the</strong> Butlerathletic web site, are $20 for reserved, while general admission seats are $5 and $10.Two weeks ago, <strong>the</strong> Blue Dragons had an opportunity to play host to <strong>the</strong> Region VIchampionship game, but dropped a 40-7 decision to <strong>the</strong> Grizzlies at Gowans Stadium.<strong>Hutchinson</strong> had four costly turnovers in that contest and Butler ran its winning streak over<strong>Hutchinson</strong> to 20 games.The rematch was set up by both teams winning in decisive fashion in last week’s RegionVI semifinals. The Blue Dragons jumped out to a huge lead early in <strong>the</strong> third quarterbefore finishing off third-seed Coffeyville 52-28. The Grizzlies steadily pulled away fromfourth-seed Garden City in a 58-17 victory in El Dorado.<strong>Hutchinson</strong> bids for its first Region VI/Jayhawk Conference championship since 1995.Before <strong>the</strong> current streak of 4 times in 5 seasons, <strong>the</strong> 1995 championship team was <strong>the</strong>last time that <strong>Hutchinson</strong> had appeared in <strong>the</strong> title game.With rare exception, Butler has been a routine participant in <strong>the</strong> Region VI championshipgame under Troy Morrell. The only year since 1998 that <strong>the</strong> Grizzlies haven’t playedin <strong>the</strong> championship game was 2005.Two of <strong>the</strong> nation’s best offenses will be featured in <strong>the</strong> <strong>2012</strong> Region VI Championshipgame. Butler ranks No. 2 in scoring offense in <strong>the</strong> NJCAA (58.1 points per game), while<strong>the</strong> Blue Dragons are fifth in <strong>the</strong> nation (48.6 ppg).Both offenses feature accurate, productive quarterbacks in HCC’s Luke Barnes (whobroke three single-season passing records last week) and Butler’s Sam Cosh. Bothteams feature game-breaking backs and receivers.In last year’s game, <strong>the</strong> last played at Galen Blackmore Stadium, <strong>the</strong> Blue Dragonsdropped a 40-21 decision.The Coaches<strong>Hutchinson</strong>: Rion Rhoades is in his sixth season with <strong>the</strong> Blue Dragons. His HCCrecord is 43-21 in his sixth season at <strong>Hutchinson</strong> and is 50-26 in seven overall seasons.On Sept. 8 against Garden City, Rhoades surpassed Bill Goldsmith for third place on <strong>the</strong>HCC coaching wins list.Butler: Troy Morrell is in his 12th season with <strong>the</strong> Grizzlies. Last week against Coffeyville, Barnes broke single-season team records forpassing yards (3,023), touchdown passes (35) and total offense (3,021). He is completing64.7 percent of his passes (244 of 377). He has thrown 35 touchdown passes to seveninterceptions. Barnes has completed at least 21 passes to five different receivers.Sophomore Antonio Johnson has team-single-season record 65 receptions for 790yards and 11 touchdowns. Sophomore Jatavius Stewart, who has missed three gameswith injuries, has 55 receptions for 762 yards and nine scores. Sophomore Miguel Johnshas 49 catches for 800 yards and eight touchdowns.Sophomore running back Terrell Lane had his streak of consecutive 100-yards gamessnapped last week at nine, including three of 200-plus and a school-record 309 yards,this season. Lane still leads <strong>the</strong> NJCAA in rushing with 1,537 yards (now No. 2 on HCC’ssingle-season rushing list) on 233 carries. He is averaging 6.6 yards per carry and has 15rushing touchdowns.Freshman Orange Mooney missed two weeks with an injury, returned last weekagainst Coffeyville and ran for 114 yards, is averaging 55.6 yards per game and 6.9yards per carry. LaQua Mayes had a career-high 168 yards against Independence onOct. 13. He is averaging 39.4 yards per game.The Blue Dragons are averaging 48.6 points per game, 26.6 first downs, 224.6 rushingyards, 311.8 passing yards and 536.4 total yards per game.Defense: After three rough outings to start <strong>the</strong> season, <strong>the</strong> Blue Dragon defense hasshown tremendous improvement in <strong>the</strong> final two-thirds of <strong>the</strong> season.In HCC’s first three games, <strong>the</strong> defense was stung for averages of 43.0 points, 212.0rushing yards and 271.7 passing yards per game. Over <strong>the</strong> next five games, <strong>the</strong> BlueDragons have surrendered averages of 8.6 points, 70.8 rushing yards, 142.8 passingyards and 213.6 total yards per game.Linebacker Kenny Flowers took over <strong>the</strong> team lead in tackles with 88 tackles. He alsohas a safety to his credit. Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell has 75 total tackles and aninterception return for a touchdown. Linebacker Brock Long has 61 tackles.Freshman Terell Hannah has 51 total tackles and five interceptions, which is tied for11th in <strong>the</strong> NJCAA. He also has two fumble recoveries and three passes defended.Christian Goodlett (58 tackles) and Shattle Fenteng (51 tackles) both have three INTs.Special Teams: Michael Mesh continues his sizzling start to his sophomore season.Mesh has totaled 86 points to move into third place on <strong>the</strong> HCC career scoring list. Heis 57 of 62 on extra points and is 9 of 10 on field goals, knocking through a career-long43-yarder against Navarro on Sept. 1.Terrell Lane and Luke Barnes are splitting <strong>the</strong> punting chores. The BlueDragons had committed only eight turnovers in <strong>the</strong> first eightgames of <strong>the</strong> season. Quarterback Luke Barnes was interceptedthree times and <strong>the</strong> Blue Dragons fumbled five times, losing justone, but that came as HCC was about to score a touchdown.HCC had three turnovers in a stretch of four first-half possessions.The Grizzlies (9-0, 7-0 Jayhawk Conference) outgained <strong>the</strong>Blue Dragons 519-329. The Grizzlies rolled up 234 yards rushingbehind Derrick Thomas’ 157 yards on 31 carries and one touchdown.Butler quarterback Billy Cosh was 20 of 35 passing for 243yards and three touchdowns. As Lane was heading into<strong>the</strong> end zone from <strong>the</strong> 3-yard line, he fumbled and sophomoreoffensive lineman Devonty Danzey recovered it for a touchdownand a 7-0 lead with 9:43 to play in <strong>the</strong> first quarter.Barnes completed 23 of 41 for 202 yards and three interceptions.Barnes set a single-season Blue Dragon record with 215completions, surpassing PJ Peters (1995).Sophomore receiver Jatavius Stewart had 11 catches for 97yards, while Antonio Johnson had five receptions for 50 yards.Stewart now has 93 career receptions, which ranks second on<strong>the</strong> career list. Then, after buildinga 38-7 lead with less than one minute to play in <strong>the</strong> third quarter,<strong>the</strong> Blue Dragons had to fend off <strong>the</strong> Ravens, who convertedtwo onside kicks after touchdowns to pull within 38-28 with 7:11remaining in <strong>the</strong> fourth quarter.Barnes, who threw for a school-record 459 yards against Coffeyvilleon Aug. 25, completed 28 of 37 passes for 348 yards andfour touchdowns on Sunday. In <strong>the</strong> process, Barnes surpassedPJ Peters (1995) for three school single-season record. Barnesset single-season records for passing yards (3,059), touchdownpasses (35) and total offense (3,031 yards).With eight catches for 81 yards and a touchdown, Johnsonknocked out Cordarrelle Patterson (2011) as HCC’s single-seasonreceptions leader with 65 receptions. Stewart had nine receptionsfor 98 yards and a touchdown. He became only <strong>the</strong> second HCCreceiver in team history with at least 10 yards. Johns caught fiveballs for 126 yards and two touchdowns.For <strong>the</strong> first time this season, sophomore running back TerrellLane was held under 100 yards, going for 51 yards on 19 carries.Freshman Orange Mooney, playing for <strong>the</strong> first time in threeweeks because of an injury, picked up <strong>the</strong> slack and gave <strong>the</strong>HCC rushing attack a spark, going for 114 yards on 12 carries,including a 73-yard bolt through <strong>the</strong> Red Raven defense.Despite having <strong>the</strong> ball for 12 less minutes than Coffeyville –<strong>the</strong> Red Ravens had 101 offensive snaps to <strong>Hutchinson</strong>’s 72 – <strong>the</strong>Blue Dragons amassed 535 yards total offense. CHARTING THE <strong>2012</strong> BLUE DRAGONSKicker Mesh continues fast startSophomore placekicker Michael Mesh has been spectacularthrough <strong>the</strong> first 11 weeks of <strong>the</strong> <strong>2012</strong> season.The <strong>Hutchinson</strong> Trinity Catholic product is 55 of 62 on his extrapointattempts and is 9 of 10on field goals.Twice this season, Meshhas kicked career-long fieldgoals. On Sept. 1 againstNavarro, Mesh kicked a43-yard field goal to cap a10-point game.In Week 1 against Coffeyville,Mesh scored 16points on three field goals and 7 of 7 extra points. He became <strong>the</strong>11th Blue Dragon and <strong>the</strong> first kicker to score 100 points in hiscareer.Mesh is now third on <strong>the</strong> career scoring list with 171 points. Heleads all HCC kickers in scoring. Mesh also has <strong>the</strong> career markfor extra points with 128.During his freshman season, Mesh set a record for most extrapoints in a single season in 2011, converting 73 of 80 point-aftertries. He also holds <strong>the</strong> single-game record of 10 extra points inone game. Adding 4 of 7 on field goals (a long of 36 yards), Meshwas second on <strong>the</strong> team in scoring last season with 85 points, asingle-season team record for a kicker. That was <strong>the</strong> sixth-mostpoints ever scored in a season in team history.Mesh averaged 58.2 yards on 97 kickoffs in 2011. Returnsagainst his kickoffs averaged 17.4 yards per return and <strong>the</strong> averagestarting position on his kickoffs was <strong>the</strong> opponents’ 28-yard line.Lane now among Top 5 HCC rushersAlready with one major record to his credit, sophomore runningback Terrell Lane is nowclimbing <strong>the</strong> career BlueDragon rushing chart.With his 184-yard effortagainst Air Force Prep, Lanebroke into <strong>the</strong> career Top 10.Against Independence, Lanebecame <strong>the</strong> 16th Blue Dragonto rush for 1,000 yards ina season and is 10th on <strong>the</strong>single-season list.Lane is now fifth on <strong>the</strong>career rushing list with 1,998yards.
