Congress mandated that FDA publish a number ofproposed rules no later than 9 months after the date of enactment of theFSMA and a final rule no later than 9 months after the close of the commentperiod for the proposed rule. For various reasons the numerous proposedrules were delayed beyond the required publication date.The vast majority of the food supply chain, including US trading partnersare uncertain about what in the new regulations addressing preventativecontrols, performance standards, traceability requirements and user feesto name a few will require. Therefore what impact will US food safetypolicy as a result of FSMA have on international trading partner’s foodsafety regulations and/or policies?
