Mrs. Margaret GuentherMr. William CheathamMrs. Vicki HoodMrs. Jennifer JohnsonMr. Michael PetuskeyMrs. Lois GarrisonMrs. Carol HouckMr. Robert RossBegin Working On Long-Term Projects as Soon as They Are Assigned. The longer youhave, the bigger they are, so estimate the time you should spend it by calculating thefollowing: total points possible divided by days given to work on assignment = points perday (round up). 1 point is about 6 minutes of work. For example, if you have a 200 pointessay with 1.5 months to work on it, 200/47=4.25; so you should work on your essayabout 25 minutes per day. If you do it this way, you’ll generally finish light years ahead oftime, and have the all-important “crunch time” before the essay is due back and relaxbecause you finished early.Form a Study Group With Friends. If it’s convenient, meet bi-weekly. You will be able togain valuable insights from your peers and get to know each other even better. If youdecide to align your classes with your friends, make sure everyone is clear that you aremeeting to study, not chat about other things.Get Involved. Good grades are an excellent way to impress that certain college but somethingextra will show that you can do more while maintaining excellent grades. If you areathletic, consider joining a sports team that you are particularly talented in. Try out everyyear for the team to establish a reputation within your high school. If you don’t want tojoin your high school’s sports team, then join a club. Join any club you are interested inor have a good background knowledge in, e.g. If you are interested in Spanish, then jointhe Spanish Club.Be In It to Win It. Always be on time, especially because Absegami has a certain numberof unexcused absences you can have. (e.g. tardiness, ditching, no note/call from parents, etc.)Avoid Drama. Don’t let any un school-related drama get in the way of your ultimate goalas a student. If there is a problem seek PEER MEDIATION.

Administrative TeamBe Yourself. As cliché as that might sound it’s really true! Don’t even think to try to besomeone you’re not to impress people. More than likely, you’re not going to be ableto keep it up for too long, it’s best to be yourself. People will like you if you’re yourself.Stay Organized. Keep all your homework, handouts, and everything in between, organizedin one large binder so you don’t have to worry about keeping track of five different foldersthroughout the day.Do All Your Homework! Homework allows you to review what you’re learning in yourclasses. Doing your homework = better comprehension = better test scores = bettergrade! So do it! Your homework will be a deciding factor on whether you get a good orbad grade at the end of the semester!Balance Your Work and Social Life. Constantly doing school work and not taking time todo anything else in your life isn’t a good thing. Having some good friends in high school issomething everyone should have. Friends can encourage even the tiniest bit of passionyou might have for school so you’ll want to go, and feel more positive and happier to bethere.Get a Tutor. A good tutor will be able to help you understand concepts, make class funand set problems which are neither too easy not too difficult for you. A tutor is not just forthe “dumb” – even the smartest students can benefit from after school tutoring.Sometimes there is a student tutor in your school who can offer help and advice betweenclasses or after school.Make and Maintain a Study Place. If you don’t have a set study place, make one now. Isyour study place organized and clean? Is it well-lit? Is it quiet and well-ventilated? Do youhave necessary materials at your fingertips? If so, good! If not, work on it. Store alltextbooks, notes etc., within reach as well as a computer (desktop/laptop) with internetaccess if possible. If your house is always crowded or noisy, try the library.Set a High Standard For Your Academic Work. Promise yourself, and others, that you’llget acceptable grades on tests and complete all homework. Take action if your marksstart falling before someone else has to point it out to you. Find ways to motivate yourself, motivation is the key to success!Do Some Extra. After you finish your homework, so some difficult problems from yoursupplemental resources. Do past exams or learn new techniques to help you get themost out of your class.Principal…………………………………….................................... The night before every class, read through the material in the bookthat day. Use review questions at the end of the chapter to make sure you have a basicunderstanding of it. Write down any questions you have and ask your teacher.Take Lecture Notes. A good rule of thumb is to copy down all diagrams as completely aspossible and write down anything you think you might not remember. Write them down towhere you can read them. Go home and rewrite your notes on 3x5 flash cards. Thenstudy your notes and flash cards.
