Some of the questions that should be considered when evaluat<strong>in</strong>g the currentstate of preparedness are as follows:• Have the levees protect<strong>in</strong>g the community and associated resources beenassessed for <strong>in</strong>tegrity?• Is there a fund<strong>in</strong>g mechanism for ongo<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>tenance and repair? Is itadequate for current needs?• Are levee improvements planned <strong>in</strong> the near future?• Is there a monitor<strong>in</strong>g system <strong>in</strong> place to assess levee <strong>in</strong>tegrity?• Is this monitor<strong>in</strong>g used to adjust management practices?• Is there a local hazard mitigation plan?
