The predom<strong>in</strong>antfeature of this region is San Francisco Bayand the miles of shorel<strong>in</strong>e, both on thePacific coast and along the bay, extend<strong>in</strong>gnorth to Sonoma County, <strong>in</strong>land to the Delta, and south to San Jose. Theurbanized areas are concentrated primarily around the bay. To the north andsouth, the region is characterized by low coastal mounta<strong>in</strong>s (CDFG, 2007).Sonoma and Napa counties produce w<strong>in</strong>e grapes valued over $850 million <strong>in</strong>2010 (California Farm Bureau Federation, 2012).
