Climate Impact RegionsThe APG is organized into a series of climate impact regions (see Figure 1). Theregions allow for greater depth and more detailed guidance to be presented. IntroductionThe State of California has been taking action to address climate change for over20 years, focusing on both greenhouse gas emissions reduction and adaptation.The California Adaptation Planning Guide (APG) continues the state’s effort byproviding guidance and support for communities addressing the unavoidableconsequences of climate change.The APG includes four documents (see Figure 1). APG: Understanding RegionalCharacteristics is one of three documents developed to supplement anoverarching planning process document, APG: Planning for Adaptive Communities.• APG: Planning for Adaptive Communities – Presents the basis forclimate change adaptation planning and introduces a step-by-stepprocess for local and regional climate vulnerability assessment andadaptation strategy development.• APG: Defining Local & Regional Impacts – Use this supplementaldocument to gain a more in-depth understanding of how climatechange can impact a community. Seven sectors of impacts arepresented to support local communities conducting a climatevulnerability assessment.YOUAREHERE• APG: Understanding Regional Characteristics –The impact of climate change varies across the state. Use thissupplemental document to understand the distinct climateimpact regions including their environmental and socioeconomiccharacteristics.• APG: Identifying Adaptation Strategies – Use this supplementaldocument to explore potential adaptation strategies thatcommunities can use to meet their adaptation needs.
