Executive SummaryThe California Adaptation Plann<strong>in</strong>g Guide (APG), a set of four complementarydocuments, provides guidance to support communities <strong>in</strong> <strong>address<strong>in</strong>g</strong> theunavoidable consequences of <strong>climate</strong> <strong>change</strong>. The APG, developed by theCalifornia Emergency Management Agency and California Natural ResourcesAgency, <strong>in</strong>troduces the basis for <strong>climate</strong> <strong>change</strong> <strong>adaptation</strong> plann<strong>in</strong>g and details astep-by-step process for local and <strong>regional</strong> <strong>climate</strong> vulnerability assessment and<strong>adaptation</strong> strategy development.The APG: Understand<strong>in</strong>g Regional Characteristics provides environmental andsocioeconomic <strong>in</strong>formation for a series of 11 <strong>climate</strong> impact regions. The choiceto designate regions is due to the statewide diversity <strong>in</strong> biophysical sett<strong>in</strong>g,<strong>climate</strong>, and jurisdictional characteristics.
