Plitvice Lakes National ParkSixteen opalescent lakes cascade from one tothe next in a dramatic series of waterfalls. Milesof trails and wooden footbridges wind over,around, behind and even through the falls,immersing you in the verdant beauty of thenatural wonders of this park. The constantlychanging hues of the lakes — azure, brilliantgreen, deep blue and sometimes gray — arecreated by the angle of sunlight anda unique interaction between water, limestoneand plant life. The travertine barriers that createthe waterfalls are continually reforming, so thelandscape is ever changing. The park covers115 square miles. The lakes descend roughly425 feet over five miles before flowing into theKorana River.
