CHAPTER 8Configuring FilteredServicesYou add filtered services–in addition to proxied services–tocontrol and monitor the flow of IP packetsthrough the Firebox. Services can be configured foroutgoing and incoming traffic, and they can be activeor inactive. When you configure a service, you set theallowable traffic end points and determine the filterrules and policies for each of these services. You canalso create services to customize rule sets, destinations,protocols, ports used, and other parameters.With both packet filters and proxies, you can determinewhich hosts within your LAN and on the Internetcan communicate with each other through thatprotocol, which events to log (such as rejected incomingpackets), and which series of events should initiatea notification of the network administrator.For information on the different types of servicesavailable, see Chapter 3, “Types of Services,” in theReference Guide.
